Thank you to Mark, Tim and Ren for your passion, patience and generosity in helping each of us turn an aspiration into reality.
I loved the weekend, and am so thrilled to have my ‘Me Made’ chair in my home where I will see it everyday and remind myself what I can achieve. My Dad would have loved it, and I think both him and my Grandfather would be proud of my beautiful chair.
I appreciate that you each care enough to want to keep improving and fine tuning the course, and learning from/with your students.
The weekend is a great investment in having something unique to treasure. I was a bit nervous at the beginning, but I was in very capable hands showing me one step at a time and with due respect for safety.
It was a great group of students - I loved how everyone helped each other with bits here and there.
Massive THANK YOU to all at Among the Trees, for saving the timber, for caring about our planet, and for giving us access to something very special. Xxx

I was interested to get a glimpse of what upholstery was about and gained a broader view than expected. Ren, our teacher, shared his deep knowledge and enthusiasm for the craft, as well as managing an efficiently structured class. We learnt skills and tips as we completed making our stools, guided patiently and with humour. It is a lovely way to spend the day.

Linden Dryburgh May 2026

A wonderful day making the stool. A great teacher with Ren. Patient and knowledgeable. Highly recommend.

Really enjoyed the class. The number of participants allowed sufficient 1:1 time with Luke our instructor, with lots of handy tips and tricks (or fixes!) along the way. A great experience and love what we were able to take away from the day in terms of new skills, experience and the finished stool. Highly recommend

It was a great day of starting to learn a new skill. It was a very physical day, I think I wove about 50 metres of cord!
Lots of fun, great environment and Luke was an excellent and engaging teacher.

No special occasion.

I had a fantastic time carving a spoon and learning about woody weeds from Brad! He was extremely knowledgeable and provided expert guidance throughout the class, helping me whenever I had a bit of trouble with a step. I learnt a wide range of techniques in the class and feel confident about pursuing carving in my own time now!

I was looking for a woodwork course and a coffee table; this course was perfect. We were taught not only what to do but why we do it that way, it was a lot more meaningful beyond just putting pieces together. Tim and Mark are excellent teachers. They approach things differently but respectfully share their ways of doing something with the class and we could make a decision about which option to choose ourselves. They created a safe and engaging learning environment, and I have to say all of our tables looked fantastic by Sunday evening.
It is hard work and two big days, but it is absolutely worth it, and I encourage anyone who is up for the challenge to do it. I went with limited woodwork experience from high school (last century) and I can now proudly say I made a beautiful coffee table - with reclaimed Australian timber.

Gordon Rowell Apr 2026

Excellent course - Mark and Tim were great guides through all of the steps. Every one of the eight tables in the class looked fabulous at the end. It's wonderful to start by selecting from wood that was saved from being dumped to end up with a stunning piece of furniture.

Great course! Mark and Tim were very knowledgeable and supportive. Both encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone and use some intimidating power tools. Such a great learning environment where students and teachers were all helping each other out. All the table tops came out beautifully!! Tiring but very worth it

I completed a Saturday picture framing course instructed by Tassie Luke along with three other people.
Despite my total lack of any carpentry or woodworking knowledge whatsoever, Luke’s clear, calm tuition provided me with the confidence that I could keep up with the more woodwork savvy students.
The atmosphere in the class was relaxed and supportive and the day flew past. I learnt some very valuable woodworking skills and came away with a solid understanding of picture framing methodology. Plus I made a picture frame! And it looks great. First thing I’ve ever made from wood.
Highly recommended. Absolute beginners, fear not - you’ll come away empowered and inspired.

Loved everything about the short 3 hour woodworking class. Teachers were great. Explained everything well and were on hand to help. My favourite thing was seeing the reclaimed peice of decking slowly morph into a one of a kind wooden spatula.

Anurati Krishnamurthy Apr 2026

Tim is a passionate and supportive teacher who makes woodworking feel accessible and achievable. He clearly demonstrated how to create beautiful furniture using just a small set of hand tools, which was both inspiring and empowering. I especially appreciated his focus on reclaimed wood and the sustainable possibilities it offers.
I thoroughly enjoyed the table-making process, and Tim’s guidance on making small adjustments really helped elevate the final result. It was a rewarding experience, and I walked away feeling confident and inspired to keep creating.

Xeni Kusumitra Apr 2026

This is a wonderful course to learn basic woodworking skills and go home with a small stylish table. I learnt lots of tips and tricks. Tim, the teacher, was very helpful and observant. His encouragement helped me enjoy learning very much. I learnt what hand tools to buy to start making simple pieces of furniture as well, very valuable suggestions.
I will definitely use those tips and tricks in my woodworking journey.

Sass Hunt Mar 2026

Fun class and the planters we took home look amazing! Definitely feel more confident using power tools now. I personally would have liked more opportunities to practice saw skills vs drill/driver skills but that's because I had previous experience using those tools - it's probably the right balance if you are a beginner across the board. It would be amazing if they had a course that was "intro to scary power tools" that was more focused on all the different cutting tools (circular saw, jigsaw, reciprocating saw). I loved being able to use reclaimed wood and learn more about that, and I feel a lot more confident about and motivated to try out doing some simple woodwork/DIY jobs myself in future. Small class, plenty of support and assistance from the teacher as needed, strongly recommend. My wife and I are debating which class of theirs we should take next!

Caitlin Summers Mar 2026

Great class. Clear instructions and enough time set aside to not feel rushed. Was very happy with the end product and would do another class for sure.

George Eassey Mar 2026

Instructor was patient and informative.
Gave feedback on the work and leads on how to make it better.

Shin Dar Long Mar 2026

Shane was clear, concise and obviously had the relevant skills to teach the course.
He answered the questions put to him succinctly as well as providing relevant, related fun facts. I learnt more than I anticipated about French polishing. The hands on aspect with the participants working on different types of wood and the subsequent impact on the final work was very good. I liked the fact that he was able to help me address and correct a couple of mistakes that I made on the job at the very start.

Barbara Jackson Mar 2026

Great day. Lovely group. Shane is so knowledgeable and a fantastic teacher. I learned so much about French polishing and am so happy with what a made. It is actually really good. I'm keen to press on with my home projects now.

It was amazing. Brad was a great teacher, he was very knowledgeable and made sure to come around to help individual students.
I would definitely go to another workshop.

Lucy Allen Feb 2026

We had such a great experience! We loved Brad and how he led us through the workshop. We would have enjoyed a little less information about land regeneration at the start, to allow more time for discussing carving technique and working on the spoons. Other than that, everything was wonderful.

Michelle Golding Feb 2026

Wonderful class! Luke (also) was fantastic, available to help and very explicit and clearly SO knowledgeable about wood working. I learned how to make a frame and the tools, measurements, pitfalls, tips and tricks. The workshop itself was very cool and there was plenty of tools for everyone. I'll be back for sure! Highly recommend.

Class leaders were both knowledgeable in their craft and enthusiastic about the projects we attendees brought along. Got a foundational framework for approaching a restoration project, and because of the diverse projects provided by attendees there was ample opportunity to see various techniques in practice. As always with these things, would have loved more time!
