What you'll do
This is a two-hour workshop aimed at complete beginners or those who have some drawing and painting experience. This class will teach you the practical skills and techniques used in watercolour painting, whether you want to use this medium for illustrative work, typography or fine art painting.
This workshop will focus on creating a single composition of a variety of succulent plants from an aerial or side perspective. With a plethora of examples seen across creative, wellbeing and home magazines and media, get in on the trend and create your own masterpiece to frame and hang on the wall. We will be drawing from both live plants and also sourced photos. You will be introduced to observation skills, drawing and composition methods and watercolour application. This workshop is for any artistic skill level, with all materials supplied.
Please note: This class requires at least six students to run. In the unlikely event that we don't get this number of students, we'll cancel the class and fully refund you and inform you via email, so please watch your email a few days prior to the class

Vanessa has always been an ‘arty soul’, growing up in Byron Bay and always dabbling in art and craft. She holds separate tertiary qualifications in Design, Visual Arts and Teaching, and enjoys passing on to others her knowledge and skills.
As a practising ceramic artist for the past 13 years, Vanessa exhibits her work at various galleries in Queensland and New South Wales, her work also part of private collections both national and international. She loves nothing better than pinching porcelain, decorating surfaces and splashing colour. Inspiration for Vanessa’s work comes from the cultural richness that surrounds her. She weaves her experience of travel, art histories and daily rituals into her artmaking. Creating series of themed ceramic works, Vanessa uses either hand building or slip casting techniques and always strives to leave a trace of the hand on her work.
Vanessa enjoys exploring the possibilities of mixing various materials and processes to create art that is evocative, textural and desirable.

Work-Shop is a creative concept that will broaden your horizons and help you unleash your inner awesome. We provide affordable short courses in life skills and alternative art. We’ve teamed up with Australia’s brightest creative minds to share their knowledge and help teach you a new skill. From 3D printing and stencil art through to music and gardening – life skills and personal development through to cooking doughnuts and mushroom foraging, we offer a broad range of fun and creative short courses to suit our time poor lives. We will inspire you to pick up that pen, paintbrush, hammer or sewing machine and flick the switch that will kickstart a whole new way of life.
Community values lie at the heart of our project. We collaborate with local artists and industry experts to teach classes and utilise local suppliers for any materials needed. We also provide a creative environment for emerging artists to produce and sell work, and meet like minded individuals. Work-Shop will be a space for everyone, with a rotating schedule of art shows, information nights on local issues and a whole range of events and community initiatives.

I took my mum and sister along to the watercolour class and we had a great time. The venue was pretty hot but after a few glasses of wine it didn't matter. Vanessa was lovely and showed us the basics in a quick demo then we were free to try ourselves. She encouraged us to pick pictures for inspiration and checked up on us with pointers and wine refills all night. The whole class left me feeling more confident in my painting skills and ready to try more.
