Painting Class: Watercolour Coast

On the hunt for unique Sunshine Coast activities? Inspired by the expansive, beautiful and vastly varied coastlines of our antipodean shores; Winsor and Newton invite you to experience the Watercolour Coast Collection.

We nod to the adventurous spirit of our impressionist painters who created in situ in response to our rugged or suburban coastlines as well as the naturalists who documented specimens found in our land.

Combining the spirit of en Plein air and specimen watercolour works, Coast 2023 encapsulates all we love about where the land meets the sea.

Create with five selected feature colours and experience how they work so beautifully for the coastal subject matter. From Naples Yellow and Potter’s Pink that describe all things sand, sandstone, cliff and rock perfectly, to turquoises that capture the ocean in various moods and light, you will be able to paint a variety of stunning seascapes.

You will learn about the properties, uses and mixes of the five feature colours and how they mix and bring a contemporary twist to a traditional palette selection.

You will also have the opportunity to work at your own pace with the guidance of a professional artist and assisted by documented step-by-step instructions, to complete up to three coastal studies which encapsulate one sweeping view of the ‘coast’ and two shells found on the coast.

Experiment with watercolour mediums such as iridescent medium to bring shimmer to sun glistening water and luminous mother-of-pearl shell. You will then get the chance to try various Fabriano Artistico Paper surface textures and how these impact the resulting granulating effects possible.
