This hands-on gluten-free sourdough class will set you on the path of freedom from having to buy gluten-free bread, pizza, pastry, crackers and even pita/pocket bread, instead, you'll know how to make it all from scratch! You won’t have to buy expensive, questionable (list of chemicals) gluten-free mixes and yeast ever again.
All gluten-free goodies in this class are fuelled by one thing, Yoke's 12+-year-old gluten-free starter which will be given to you and be used to make your very own sourdough gluten-free bread to take home. The dough you make will be completely vegan and FODMAP-friendly.
In this interactive class, you will learn by seeing, touching, smelling and tasting along the way and of course, make your own gluten-free dough to take home.
Yoke's ultra-versatile gluten-free flour mixture is free from yeast, additives, corn, soy, xantham and guar gums and preservatives of any kind. A variety of gluten-free whole grains and ingredients will also be used and discussed in this class including quinoa, finger millet and sorghum.
It is the basis of gluten-free bread that tastes so good, is bendable, cuts, keeps well and is definitely worthy of a sandwich, freeze-able pizza dough, pastries, crackers, and of course pita bread to accompany your home-made dips, including a delicious fruit loaf or hot cross buns - your choice!
All steps will be explained, shown and shared in this class. You will see the different stages of the breadmaking process and you will be making your own gluten-free dough and take home gluten-free starter at the end of the class.
Note: The goodies in this class are all made from scratch with no additives/preservatives, yeast, corn, maize, soya, xanthan and guar gum. This makes them high in protein and easy to digest.

Show map   Following successful careers in Fashion and Finance, Yoke Mardewi took the plunge and decided to work at her first love and passion – the making and sharing of food and in particular, sourdough bread-making.
Yoke runs cooking classes with a specialty in sourdough bread-making. She has written the book ‘Wild Sourdough,’ featured on Western Australian TV, radio and in various food and health websites, newspapers and magazines.
Yoke was also a TedTalk speaker in 2019 running a segment 'Ground Yourself with Sourdough' which touched on the slow, purposeful process of making sourdough and served as a reminder to notice what gives us simple joy - and why everyone needs to find their 'sourdough'.
Her cooking classes are as much about sharing her warmth and passion for life as they are about the joy of food.
Yoke is a member of the Artisan Bakers Association and Slow Food, and is a keen supporter of organic/bio-dynamic farming.
She supports and encourages others to have the courage to pursue their passion in life.
