What you'll do
Interested in developing your art skills? This class in Hornsby is a great introduction to drawing and painting the live model in a classical style.
It is suitable for artists of all levels and beginners are more than welcome. We go through things from the very start - but if it is your first time coming to a class like this we recommend you start with drawing before jumping into painting. You have the choice of painting or drawing from a life model or working on still life.
During the session, you'll be taught by professional portrait artist and two-time Archibald finalist Sally Ryan and award-winning painter Ben Ryan. It includes individual feedback as well as demonstrations and references to great artworks throughout history.
At the end of this unique painting workshop, return home with your completed artwork and the confidence to continue creating art in the classical style!

Knowledge required
The class is suitable for artists of all levels. Beginners are welcome, and if you're an absolute beginner we recommend that you spend the first class or classes drawing.
What you'll get
- An introduction to traditional drawing and painting methods.
- Take home any artwork you create during the class.
What to bring
The studio will provide drawing materials for free, and oil painting materials that you don't have can be purchased from the studio. Feel free to bring any materials you have and we can go from there!

This venue is within walking distance from Hornsby station (800m). There is plenty of free parking in the streets around Hornsby, but Hunter Street itself is mostly 2 hour parking.

Hamley Studio is based in the upper north shore of Sydney and offers painting and drawing classes for students of all levels. We are classically-trained artists and it is our aim to help students understand what they’re seeing – whether it’s a life model, a still life, or anything else – and use a range of materials to recreate it convincingly on a page or canvas. All of our classes are tailored to the needs of each individual student, so whether you're a complete beginner or an advanced artist you can work at your own pace to improve your skills.
