Warami (Hi, Hello, Holla) in Sydney Gadigal Language.
Join me local Gadigal Artist, University Lecturer, Climate Justice Activist, and Master Weaver, Nadeena Dixon for a fun and inspirational two-hour Redfern Gadigal Aboriginal Walkabout Tour.
Walkabout
We will start our Walkabout tour with a short stroll to a local Native urban plant regeneration site where we will identify various plant species and learn how they were utilised by Gadigal people. We will sustainably gather local fallen fibres to add later into our weavings.
Discover how Gadigal ' Garrigarang ' Traditional (Saltwater) knowledge reflects, Gadigal peoples intimate relationship with the Sydney basin seasonal calendar, which includes the 'Dark Emu' Astrological Creation constellations.
Along the way we will learn some Gadigal language phrases like Warami - Hello, Naa - To see, Ngarra -to understand /listen deeply, connected to Gadigal Peoples history and cultural practices.
Visit Art Studio
Come along and get an insider peek into the life of a professional practising Contemporary Aboriginal artist, learn about my art practice and what motivates my work. You will get to see my behind the scenes maker space, my art materials, supplies and see where many of my early career works were created which are now housed in various collections.
Weaving Workshop
Located just a five-minute stroll away we will arrive at my Professional Art Studio to learn how to twine our own traditional Gadigal Bush string, to tie onto our Sacred Spiral Pendant necklace woven
using our previously gathered fibres, which is yours to take home.
We finish with a delicious Bush Tea made fresh with locally grown Native Tea Ingredients. Along with yummy small treats.
Please note: The group will require a minimum of 10 participants for the workshop to go ahead. If numbers are not available a full refund will be issued.
Suitable for adults, and kids (minimum 7 years old).
An adult must accompany any attending kids, and must pay for a separate ticket.
