Experience the art of slip cast ceramic-making with passionate expert Ryan Foote and his skilled team at their gorgeous studio in Melbourne.
In this six-week course, you'll work with your hands, learn and develop your new skills and take away your hand-finished pieces!
Slipcasting is a method of making ceramics with a liquid clay body which is poured into plaster moulds and allowed to form a layer on the inside walls of the mould before emptying the remaining slip, and then de-moulding.
Throughout the course, you will learn the basics of understanding clay and its properties, surface and texture; how to mix and pour the slip, and then de-mould and clean up the shape. You'll also learn some of the many technical skills involved with slipcasting from Ryan and his team too.
You will start with learning how to cast a one-piece mould and then move up to a more complex four-piece mould design.
Each week will focus on a different technique, from layering slips to splash techniques, painting, engraving and sgraffito. You will also learn a range of glazing techniques from hand-applied bubble glaze to brushing and using gloppy glazes.
Spend some time getting in touch with your creative side and enjoy making unique pieces for your kitchen at this ceramic course in Melbourne!
