Over two days, you will learn the basics involved in forging and finishing a kitchen knife that will last a lifetime and see daily use.
We will start the course with a brief OHS overview and tool safety so everyone feels comfortable in the space we are in. Then, we will go into the design aspects and use of materials before starting to forge your own blade.
After forging, we will go through the necessary steps to normalise and harden the steel to stay sharp.
We will then begin grinding and perfecting the edge on the blade as well as thinking about handle design and materials. Once the blade has been finished, sanded, and textured, we can proceed to fit the handle.
After handle shaping and sanding, we are ready to finish, clean, and sharpen your own kitchen knife to take home.
Note: During the forging, it can become rather warm, but we will take our time and go at your pace to ensure everything is done right and in a safe way.
