Ready to take your finger knitting to the next level? Join Gemma from Cosy Knits by Gemma for an intermediate group finger knitting workshop where you'll build on your existing skills and create your very own gorgeous chunky knit lap blanket, 80 x 100cm of soft, cosy handmade goodness.
Hosted at the beautiful Vend Marketplace and Café in central Brisbane, this is three hours of creative flow, good company, and the deeply satisfying experience of watching something truly beautiful grow beneath your hands, row by row, stitch by stitch.
You already know the basics. Now it's time to put them to work on a bigger, more rewarding project. A lap blanket is one of the most loved and versatile things you can make, perfect for the couch, the bed, gifting to someone special, or simply keeping as a reminder that you made something remarkable with your own two hands.
Gemma will guide the group through every stage of the blanket, helping you build confidence, consistency and technique as you go. The atmosphere is warm, relaxed and social, this is the kind of workshop you'll want to do again, and bring your friends to next time.
Looking for something more meaningful than dinner or drinks? This is the perfect activity for a birthday, baby shower, hen's party, or simply a genuinely lovely day out with your favourite people doing something creative and a little different.
What you'll learn:
How to apply your finger knitting foundations to a larger, more complex project
Techniques for maintaining consistent, even stitches across a full lap blanket

Hi, I’m Gemma, the hands and heart behind Cosy Knits by Gemma.
Before I ever picked up a skein of chunky chenille yarn, I was a midwife. I loved caring for women and babies, but after years in the profession I experienced significant burnout and trauma, and was later diagnosed with PTSD. During that season, I was searching for a hobby that would be gentle, something rhythmic and grounding to help regulate my nervous system. That’s when I found finger knitting.
The repetitive motion, the softness of the yarn and the simplicity of creating with my hands brought a sense of calm I hadn’t felt in a long time. What began as personal healing slowly turned into a creative passion, and eventually a growing handmade business selling plush toys, blankets and cosy décor at markets across Brisbane and online.
I love teaching because I know firsthand how powerful creativity can be. In my workshops, it’s not just about making a blanket, it’s about slowing down, building confidence and experiencing the quiet pride of finishing something beautiful with your own hands. I create a supportive, beginner-friendly space where there’s no pressure to be perfect.
Something people often don’t realise? You don’t need knitting needles, prior experience or natural “talent.” Finger knitting is accessible, meditative and surprisingly empowering.
I bring years of experience in creating safe, nurturing environments through my midwifery background, and I now combine that with my creative skills to offer workshops that feel calm, welcoming and genuinely restorative.
I’m incredibly proud of building this business from the ground up, from a coffee table hobby to a recognised handmade brand and I’m passionate about helping others rediscover their creativity too.
