Functional Kitchen Pottery Workshop

A kitchen set you’ll love—because you made it

105 mins

Class size 1 to 8 (public classes), 6 to 12
$85 (PayPal Pay in 4 available)

Spend a relaxed and creative afternoon making something functional and useful in this hands-on clay workshop. You will create two functional ceramic pieces: a garlic/ginger grater that doubles as a spoon rest and a herb stripper.
Melissa will guide you step-by-step through simple hand-building techniques, including shaping and adding texture. You will create your own unique versions of these pieces, which will then be glazed in a classic white finish for a clean, timeless look.
This workshop is beginner-friendly and designed to feel calm, enjoyable and rewarding. Your pieces will be professionally fired and finished and will be ready for collection approximately 4-5 weeks after the class.
As an extra treat, a high tea for two (or three) is available as an add-on purchase (see photograph).
As the venue is closed during our workshop, refreshments do need to be pre-booked with the venue.
Perfect for friends, couples and families.
Your creations will be fired and ready for collection 4 -5 weeks after the session and collection is at Melissa’s home studio in Brighton.

Please note: Public dates for this class require at least 6 guests to run. In the unlikely event that we don't reach this number, we may cancel the session; if that happens, we'll inform you and let you choose between a refund or reschedule, so please watch your email/SMS one day prior to the class.

I’m Melissa, a potter and English teacher based in Brighton on the northern bayside of Brisbane. I've been more seriously doing pottery for about six years after taking a class in wheel throwing. Working with clay is addictive, good for personal well-being, and achievable — and that’s why I keep coming back to it.
I now work from my home studio, where I enjoy both hand-building and wheel throwing objects that I mostly gift to family and friends. I'm a member of my local community studio, which allows me to learn from other potters. I now fire at home with my own kiln and mix many of my own glazes.
Alongside making, I've taught high school English and Arts for about ten years. My workshops are calm, encouraging, and thoughtfully structured — and I cater mostly for beginners.
I'm fairly confident that after a class or two, you may catch the very contagious pottery bug, and I hope you do.
