In this hands-on pottery class, Melissa will guide you through making a functional clay noodle set designed for everyday use. Your handmade set will include a noodle bowl, a small sauce/condiments dish, and a chopstick rest, made using simple hand-building pottery techniques.
The class is relaxed and beginner-friendly, with a focus on enjoying the tactile experience of working with clay. Melissa demonstrates each step and supports participants as they shape, refine and personalise their pieces at a comfortable pace.
This pottery experience is ideal for anyone wanting to try clay for the first time or enjoy a mindful, creative break while making practical ceramic tableware.
All pieces are professionally glazed and kiln-fired after the class and will be ready for collection in approximately 5 weeks.
This is a hands-on pottery workshop. As the venue is closed during our workshop, refreshments are not included. You’re welcome to bring your own, or pre-book packages with the venue.

I’m Melissa, a potter and English teacher based in Brighton on the northern bayside of Brisbane. I've been more seriously doing pottery for about six years after taking a class in wheel throwing. Working with clay is addictive, good for personal well-being, and achievable — and that’s why I keep coming back to it.
I now work from my home studio, where I enjoy both hand-building and wheel throwing objects that I mostly gift to family and friends. I'm a member of my local community studio, which allows me to learn from other potters. I now fire at home with my own kiln and mix many of my own glazes.
Alongside making, I've taught high school English and Arts for about ten years. My workshops are calm, encouraging, and thoughtfully structured — and I cater mostly for beginners.
I'm fairly confident that after a class or two, you may catch the very contagious pottery bug, and I hope you do.
