Class size 1 to 10 (public classes), 6 to 15
  $96

This is the perfect class if you've always wanted to try out watercolour but you've never had the chance or if you've dabbled a little but would love to learn some new techniques.
In this class, we'll be working through a bunch of fun exercises with just a couple of colours so you can familiarise yourself with how this medium acts, how much water you should use and how to get the appearance you're after. Experimenting to see how pigment and water mix like this is one of our favourite things to do!
You will also learn a vast range of effects so you are fully armed with all the techniques you need to tackle your next watercolour painting.
By the end of the class, you'll go home with a stack of 15+ small pages that you've worked on, all ready for you to refer back to whenever you like!
Tea and coffee are provided. A fridge and microwave are available so please feel free to bring along something to eat if you like.
*Please note: this class is booked into the upstairs space at Hive Studios, which requires walking up two flights of stairs. If this is an issue for you, please get in touch, and I can see if the downstairs space is available instead. Thank you!

  • 5/5 from Jennifer Wong, attended Apr 2026: Perfectly delivered with a great breakdown of techniques that made me understand the cause and effect for watercolour as a medium. No more blindly adding water and hoping for the best haha. Love how Alexia links her exercises for practising the techniques back to her artwork to demonstrate the application of them. This is truly helpful for a beginner, from paper, brushes, pigments in a tube, etc, she's got it covered. We will definitely be back for more classes, esp. the birds! One recommendation I have is to let students know they don't have to save the paint so much front he beginning, bigger blobs for more intense colours to practise the techniques is fine and there will be plenty of paint for the rest of the class. More intense colours tend to show better effect of somwle exercises.
