  • 5/5 from Katja Rex, attended Nov 2025: I attended Alex’s watercolour class yesterday where we painted a kookaburra, and I am still amazed at what I was able to create. I walked in unsure if I could paint something this detailed, but Alex explained each step calmly and clearly, and my confidence grew as we went along. The studio space was big and bright, and all materials were provided, which made everything feel easy and relaxed. Before each stage, Alex demonstrated the technique, and we even practised the more complex brush strokes first, which helped a lot. Every question was answered with patience and encouragement, and the whole class had a very calming feel to it. By the end, I genuinely had a “wait… I actually painted this?” moment. I was so proud of my kookaburra that I immediately sent photos to friends and family. We also had a little tea break, which was a lovely moment to chat with the other participants and get to know Alex a bit more. Overall, it was a really enjoyable experience and I would happily join another class.

Great quality materials used during the lesson with clever use of technology to help all participants see and understand technique description and the demonstration. A well thought out flow to develop a painting that allows drying time, without sacrificing the detail to create a high quality painting of a Kookaburra.
