NEW! 5 Week Beginner's Glass Fusing Workshop

Fused glass is a beautiful and elegant process and you can learn to make your own unique pieces in this five week course! During this comprehensive course, you will learn the basics of glass fusing and slumping with practical application at every session.You will gain an understanding of all the essential elements of glass fusing and slumping. This includes everything from understanding the fusing processes, to glass forms, to cutting glass with several tools, to glass fusing compilation. An overview of kiln use will be covered too.Each week you will learn different components and will make a piece to apply the theory.Classes will run as follows:Week 1: Introduction to Glass Fusing - covering the 5 main processes and learning glass cutting basics. Activity:

• Make 3 small versions of the same piece, which we will fire in the different processes so that you can compare the differences
• Make a small piece of each process - freestyle

Week 2: Cutting skills - Learning to use a straight line scorer and a hand scorer, and working with grinders. Activity:

• Make a coaster using your straight line cutting skills and grinding skills
• Make a coaster-sized piece with a flower on it

Week 3: Jewellery Making – Learn different techniques and learn about different glass----reactive, frit, dichroic and iridescent glass, stringers and noodles. Activity:

• Make 5 jewellery pieces using one of each technique
• Make 2 pieces that require 2 stages

Week 4:

• Complete your 2-stage jewellery pieces.
• Understanding moulds – slumping or draping.

Learn 4 techniques:

• Working with holes
• Glass transparency techniques
• Fibre paper technique
• Working with frit.

Activity: Make a 17 x 17 cm piece using one of these processes Week 5:

• Basics of using a kiln.
• Freestyle – make your own piece (17 x 17 cm).

At the end of this course, you will have a great understanding of the basics of glass fusing, with beautiful pieces from each class to show for it. Each piece will be ready the following week. The final week piece you will need to pick up about 1-2 weeks later.Note: We do not offer refunds. If you miss a session, you can make it up if we have availability in another of our Glass Fusing Workshops for Beginners sessions. But we reserve the right not to offer you a transfer session.
