Beginner's Glass Fusing Workshop

6.5 hours Class size 6 to 10 guests

$250 ($275 per guest when you book for 6+ guests, $250/guest for 6+ guests. $50 per class surcharge applies for private classes)

This is an intensive workshop where you will learn comprehensive glass fusing and slumping skills.
During the class you will gain an understanding of glass fusing and slumping and acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to fuse glass. This includes everything from how to cut glass using mosaic cutters, and free hand scorers, to the basic fusing process.
In the morning you will make some small items (jewellery, coaster, small dish) in order to understand different firing outcomes. We have an hour lunch break - there are a lot of local restaurants so you can eat locally or bring your own lunch.
In the afternoon you will make a piece 26cm x 26cm. This can be in the form of a flat art piece or a platter/dish. If you choose to make a larger item than what the course offers - or an additional item - you can do so but will be charged for the additional glass, materials and firing.
The value of the pieces you will make is worth approximately $120. Tea, coffee and biscuits will also be served.

  • 5/5 from Carolyn Dennis, attended Sep 2023: I had a great day learning about glass fusing. Fleur was a very knowledgeable and patient teacher. I was pleased to have several options of what I could make for my main piece - it was hard to choose! Am excited to pick up my finished work in a few weeks and see how it looks.
  • 5/5 from Brian Wigg, attended Jul 2023: Teacher was very knowledgeable and ran a very informative course. The venue was well set out and equipment in good working order and introduction session on the machinery was wee presented. The course was far better than my expectations.
  • 5/5 from Sharyn Fitzgerald, attended Jun 2023: Had a wonderful day learning all about techniques for creating amazing glass pieces. Meryl was so knowledgeable and helpful and explained in clear and understandable ways what was required. Really enjoyed trying different techniques for some smaller pieces working our way up with confidence to complete one big piece. Highly recommend this class for an introduction to glass works and the confidence to undertake new pieces!

  • 5/5 from Winter Stagg, attended May 2023: Meryl! How do I start! Just a born teacher, one of those people who can command a room, answer even the most esoteric of questions AND be clipping glass with a giant pair of rubber tipped steel shear things all at the same time. Its is a MASSIVE space too, so you can really stretch out and spread your creative wings. All day long students come in and out to work on their projects and you get so see some amazingly inspirational works! I myself am a lil bit scared of flying shards of glass (some old hospitality injuries) but though the studio is bright and fun absolutely everything is done safely and meticulously. I myself have some spinal trauma and nerve issues like tremors nope, no worries, have a cuppa, i'll show you how to do what you need to you are welcome here. This is the workshop you want to go to to LEARN and maybe just as importantly laugh. Unfortunately our works are still in the oven so all i have is this photo of some unfused pieces, cute, but they do not look anything like the amazing outcomes!
