  • 5/5 from Alice Molony, attended Sep 2026: Had such a lovely afternoon at this watercolour class with my friends and daughter! We were lucky to have a beautiful sunny day in the Blue Mountains while painting a galah and a Sturt’s Desert Pea and learning some fun watercolour techniques. It was such a relaxing, chilled afternoon and our teacher Fran was lovely and encouraging. I absolutely loved it and can’t wait to come back, next time I’m bringing Mum!
  • 5/5 from Marga van de Reyt, attended Dec 2025: I tried a 3-hour afternoon watercolour class. I am a complete novice and was pleasantly surprised at how much I learned in such a short time. Fran is very experienced, and her preparations were extensive. This enabled us to just relax and enjoy, while Fran guided us. There was plenty of time to get to know the other students, have afternoon tea, and complete 2 paintings! I highly recommend attending one of Fran's classes.
  • 5/5 from Angela Bentley, attended Nov 2025: 2 art pieces
  • 5/5 from Bronwyn Ferguson, attended Nov 2025: Fran was very encouraging. Thank you for a lovely afternoon of watercolour painting.
  • 5/5 from Richard Young, attended Mar 2024: Great introductory class to waterpainting. Achieved so much more than I expected in the timeframe! Fran was very patient considering that I've never really done any art since I was a kid.
  • 5/5 from Sarah, attended Dec 2023: Thank you so much Fran. We had a great time & you were so patient with us. We will definitely be recommending this to everyone when visiting blue mountains.
  • 5/5 from Jessica Dhiacou, attended Sep 2023: We had such a wonderful time at Fran’s class! She was very friendly, generous with her time and took us through the basics of watercolour well so that by the end we had 2 completed paintings to take home. A great idea for a girls day out in the Blue Mountains!
  • 5/5 from Cynthia Tang, attended Sep 2023: I attended a watercolour painting class with a friend at Fran's place in the blue mountains. Her studio was very cute and situated in a lovely peaceful area with a great view out. Fran was a wonderful teacher, patient, and super welcoming. She got us to practice some basic watercolouring skills first before allowing us to create two different paintings. I had a wonderful time at Frans, she was super accomodating for us as we were late due to an accident on the road, and she had tea, coffee and snacks throughout her class. All in all a great class and can't wait to try out some of the techniques I learnt from her today!
  • 5/5 from Michelle, attended Jul 2023: Loved this intimate watercolour painting class! Fran our teacher was brilliant & we had an excellent time! Thoroughly recommend
  • 5/5 from Aleta, attended Jan 2023: Thoroughly recommend Ladybird’s paint n sip class. We were engrossed in our painting, learning watercolour techniques so we could paint a beautiful Australian King Parrot. Four generations all together, admiring each others artistic endeavours and sharing some laughs as well. Fran is an excellent teacher and her explanations and pace catered to all skill levels in our family.
  • 5/5 from Alison, attended Jan 2023: I have done many classes with Fran and she is always very patient, kind and encouraging.
  • 5/5 from Karen Booyens, attended Jan 2023: We had a great relaxed evening and have great paintings to show for it. Very enjoyable
  • 5/5 from Alice Shadjareh, attended Jan 2022: Me and my partner had a great evening painting with Fran. As absolute beginners she talked us through some techniques and then got us painting our own artworks. Fran was patient with us and didn’t rush us at any point or make us feel silly for asking her to repeat herself. The venue itself is in a beautiful location up in the blue mountains and Fran even recommended a nearby lookout to us for more stunning views before we made the trip back home!

Fran is an artist; an educator, neither overshadows, they simply entwine and enrich one another.
At a young age Fran discovered the value of creating art in her daily life. The act of art helped Fran express her identity. The process of developing an idea, especially with jewellery, seeing that idea come to completion by Fran's own hand filled her with satisfaction and accomplishment.  Fran began to see how creating art helped other aspects of my life and learning.
Fran is inspired by nature, patterns, form and texture. Each created piece portrays a slice of life, a perspective of the world in which we all live. Her mediums span painting and jewellery to collage and stitching. They all bring joy, though not everything turns out how she envisaged.
In particular Fran sees the unique design and individually handcrafted nature of bespoke jewellery as an ornamental way of extending personal self-expression. During the creative process, she is mindful that someone will be wearing the piece and it will come alive only when it finds its owner.
Fran is most comfortable in the studio classroom teaching art than in any other place or endeavour. It fills her soul to help others learn by exposing them to tools, materials and techniques of Fran's trade and then develop their skills and confidence in the creative medium.
Through support, conversation and laughter, I set a welcoming scene of free expression.
Ladybird Design Creative Studio is the culmination of creating a life around my passions of art, jewellery and teaching. It frees Fran to take a piece of silver, blank canvas or paper, turn it into a beautiful thing and share it with the world every day. Fran believes now more than ever that pursuing one’s passions makes life more colourful and vibrant, gives us pleasure and purpose, but most of all it reminds us of who we are.
Fran would love to share the joy of creating and making with you.
