Painting Class: Paint, Sip and Watch the Sunset

Enjoy a fun painting experience no matter the occasion----birthday, hens, team building, family fun or some me-time

2.5 hours

Class size 1 to 7 (public classes), 6 to 30

$45 - $59 ($59 per guest when you book for 1+ guests, $55/guest for 4+ guests, $50/guest for 10+ guests, $45/guest for 20+ guests. $75 per class surcharge applies for private classes)

Enjoy a workshop, "paletteque" with a small group in a great location - enjoy the view from studio, looking out over treetops into the Valley of the Waters (option for bigger groups Fran can come to you).
Over a two and half hour fun and creative class, you'll paint your own picture that you’ll be proud of. The best time for the workshop is near sunset so you can enjoy the changing colour of the sky while you paint.
Your teacher is also able to bring the creative fun experience to you for your private small group celebration (travel up to two hours from the Blue Mountains) for groups 10-30 - for private groups select what you'd like to paint.
The workshop will go step by step, guiding you to paint original artwork on canvas. The artwork for this session is a banksia. The symbolic meaning of Banksia's is renewal, resilience, and a deep connection to the land. More than just a plant, the Banksia is a keeper of stories and a symbol of resilience. Each banksia cone holds the stories of fire, renewal, and the sacred cycle of life
All other materials provided - blank canvas, paint, brushes, apron.
Please note: The workshop will only go ahead if there are two or more participants - anyone booked will be moved to a new date that suits them.
If your looking to connect via zoom with your team instead, this can also be organised!

  • 5/5 from Maureen, attended Feb 2026: We painted banksias. Fran was great - patient and encouraging. It was my first painting class and I found it absorbing and relaxing. I would love to do another one sometime.
  • 5/5 from Kama Stephen, attended Feb 2026: I was fortunate to be gifted a voucher to this class and it was easily redeemed on the ClassBento site. Fran was an excellent teacher; welcoming, easy to chat to and great at explaining how to go about each step of the painting. The pace of the class was relaxed and inclusive allowing for those who took longer to take their time and chatting with those who finished more quickly. The venue was cosy and comfortable, full of colour and interesting pieces of artwork to look at, all set in her lovely garden. Everything was set up when we arrived including aprons, paints, bushes etc and delicious biscuits so we could get straight to the painting. I thoroughly enjoyed my afternoon and would recommend this class to all. It was a fun and relaxing way to spend a few hours and I would happily attend another of Fran’s classes.

  • 5/5 from Margaret Little, attended Jan 2026: The acrylic painting class I attended with Fran was excellent, friendly teacher & classmates, a wonderful evening. Fran was so encouraging when I had so much self doubt whilst also receiving encouragement by class members. Hopefully I can do more classes in the future. A wonderful evening.
  • 5/5 from Lesley Emmett, attended Jan 2026: This was a gift from my daughter who attended the class with me. Fran was bright and cheery, had a great studio set in the beautiful Blue Mountains, gave clear instructions on how to find her and was very welcoming. With no painting experience, we found Fran's class was great. Teaching instructions were clear, help provided when needed and lots of encouragement given along the way. We painted banksias -a fitting subject when surrounded by a bush setting. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and came away with a painting each having surprised ourselves. It was really easy to retrieve the gift card- thoroughly recommend the experience and Fran.

  • 5/5 from Johanna M Aboltins, attended Jun 2024: What a wonderful afternoon of paint n sip with Fran in the beautiful mountains! Booked this class over a year ago but due to family health, we couldn’t do it at the time. A whole year later Fran kindly honoured the booking and we are so thankful, a wonderful family activity to celebrate our Mum’s 60th birthday! We love how Fran joined in on the family banter and of course paying Dad out for his lack of painting skills despite Fran’s best teaching attempts! Good fun, even the worst painters can come up with something that resembles a painting!
  • 5/5 from Georgia Forst, attended Mar 2024: My family and I attended Frans paint and sip class for my Mums 60th birthday and had a wonderful time. We all had a fantastic time painting, laughing and enjoyed being creative together. It was a very special evening that won’t be forgotten. Fran is an excellent teacher who was very patient and encouraging of us. She is very kind and funny and she made the event very relaxing and fun. I would 100% recommend this class for a birthday present to someone special but it’s worth a visit for any occasion at all! Will definitely be coming back again and very keen to try the other classes available.

My family and I had a wonderful time learning some basic new skills, teasing each other and laughing. I would recommend this to anyone who would like to do something different for a birthday, or weekly activity. My family and I walked away from this experience wondering why he hadn't done it sooner, and how we could incorporate it more often. Thanks so much Fran for helping us celebrate my mothers 75th.
  • 5/5 from Lily Rhodes, attended Aug 2023: Fran curated a wonderful paint and sip experience for us. She was great at communicating with us in advance to find the right piece for us to paint. • 5/5 from Marina, attended Apr 2023: A group of friends and I enjoyed a great afternoon at Fran’s Sip and paint session. The room was light, airy and very welcoming with our canvases and easels waiting invitingly ready for us to begin. Frans instructions were clearly and simply conveyed to us, how to draw the outline, to mix the colours and which order to apply the palate of paint to create our design. It was a relaxed, fun afternoon and we each took home our paintings, very pleased with our results. I can thoroughly recommend both Frans artistic talent and the venue
  • 5/5 from Gay, attended Apr 2023: What an enjoyable afternoon! Fran is so easy going, encouraging and informative. We did an acrylic painting and I must say it was better than my first attempt a few years ago elsewhere. Having a small group is so much better! And it ended with a glass of bubbly while watching the sunset from Fran's comfortable lounge:)
  • 5/5 from Haidee, attended Apr 2023: I attended a Sip and Paint class run by Fran on Thurs 27th April. Fran was a wonderful teacher, engendering confidence in me to have a go at painting the subject she suggested, in comfortable studio. The acrylic paints she provided were very forgiving and easy to apply and we all had a great time painting our parrots. The nibbles and drinks afterwards looking out over her back deck at the beautiful Blue Mountains and sunset was a sublime way to finish the class. I thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon and would recommend Fran to anyone thinking of "dabbling" in painting in very congenial atmosphere. Haidee
  • 5/5 from Irene, attended Apr 2023: This was my first painting lesson- ever I was a bit nervous as I did not know what to expect. Attended with some friends who had had lessons before. Fran was happy to answer questions and guide us if needed. She catered for us all in a friendly relaxed manner. It was a privilege to work in her studio and later take in the beautiful Blue Mountains views from her studio. Therefore, I felt it was very good value as everything was included. And the best part was the laughter before and after the session and seeing everyone's creations. Time and money well spent.
  • 5/5 from Erin, attended Mar 2023: I recently attended one of Fran's paint and sip classes What a lovely way to spend a few hours! The room was comfy and everything we needed was set up and at hand. Fran's step by step instructions were clear and easy to follow and I was happy with the way my painting turned out. Great activity to do with friends. Relaxing and lots of fun!

  • 5/5 from Kristy Bewley, attended Mar 2023: Fran was fantastic, very easy steps and very conversational! The only thing was that I had in my mind that Fran was bringing the tables and chairs like pop up furniture therefore had a bit of a freak out when they weren’t! All was fine! But yeah maybe something letting me know that would be great. Otherwise it was a great experience and worth the money!
  • 5/5 from Jeanette, attended Dec 2022: The teacher was lovely. Such talent and a great manner in her teaching. Great value for money, very comfortable and great space to do the painting.

  • 4/5 from Bridget Beck, attended Oct 2022: Totally Loved the session with Fran and my girlfriends, very special memories made while we sat in the sun and shade from a glorious oak tree, sipping wine and being creative. Wanted the time to stretch on as it is very relaxing, I personally would recommend if booking a private session to book extra time for extra added enjoyment. Love your work Fran, thank you for making the birthday surprise so special.
  • 5/5 from Erin Williams, attended Jul 2022: Fran is so lovely! Fran is a great teacher we learnt a lot! She is lots of fun to chat with. Her studio is small but perfect for a private session like ours we wouldn't have wanted it any different! Even got a visit from her beautiful fur baby Coco and the cheese and biscuits were a lovely addition. Would recommend for a great day with friends.
  • 5/5 from Rebecca Lindhout, attended Jul 2022: Fran hosted a great class. There were 5 of us in the lovely studio (which was nice and warm). The set up was very comfortable, great sized canvas and some nibbles to get us started. Fran guided us through the chosen artwork clearly and in a very relaxed way. While the paint was drying we managed to watch various stages of the sunset over the National park! There were 5 of us in the class and we all produced great (and individual) pieces and had lots of fun. I’d definitely recommend and hope to attend another of Fran’s classes next time I’m in the mountains.

Fran is an artist; an educator, neither overshadows, they simply entwine and enrich one another.
At a young age Fran discovered the value of creating art in her daily life. The act of art helped Fran express her identity. The process of developing an idea, especially with jewellery, seeing that idea come to completion by Fran's own hand filled her with satisfaction and accomplishment.  Fran began to see how creating art helped other aspects of my life and learning.
Fran is inspired by nature, patterns, form and texture. Each created piece portrays a slice of life, a perspective of the world in which we all live. Her mediums span painting and jewellery to collage and stitching. They all bring joy, though not everything turns out how she envisaged.
In particular Fran sees the unique design and individually handcrafted nature of bespoke jewellery as an ornamental way of extending personal self-expression. During the creative process, she is mindful that someone will be wearing the piece and it will come alive only when it finds its owner.
Fran is most comfortable in the studio classroom teaching art than in any other place or endeavour. It fills her soul to help others learn by exposing them to tools, materials and techniques of Fran's trade and then develop their skills and confidence in the creative medium.
Through support, conversation and laughter, I set a welcoming scene of free expression.
Ladybird Design Creative Studio is the culmination of creating a life around my passions of art, jewellery and teaching. It frees Fran to take a piece of silver, blank canvas or paper, turn it into a beautiful thing and share it with the world every day. Fran believes now more than ever that pursuing one’s passions makes life more colourful and vibrant, gives us pleasure and purpose, but most of all it reminds us of who we are.
Fran would love to share the joy of creating and making with you.
