Looking to unleash your creativity and have some fun in a printmaking class Brisbane?
Join our expert tutor Rachael Lee to learn how to carve your own design on a lino block and make a series of prints to take home.
Don't worry if you're new to printmaking, Rachael will guide you through the basics and share expert tips that she's gained through years of experience.
During class, you'll learn:
  • The easy way to transfer your design onto your block
  • How to safely carve your block to get the best out of your design
  • The right way to ink your block
  • Different ways of printing your block using a press or by hand
  • How to use colour and pattern to bring your design to life
You'll be working with Silk Cut Lino, a material used by professional artists, rather than the white silicone blocks typically offered in other printing workshops.
Through this workshop, you'll not only learn new skills but also have the opportunity to express yourself artistically. You'll take home your carved block and a series of colourful prints that you can frame or give to friends/family as a special handmade gift. You'll have the skills to continue printing your lino block at home.
Cancellation Policy: Life happens, we get it! You can cancel or reschedule your workshop booking anytime up to 7 days before the class. Unfortunately, if you cancel within 7 days and we're unable to fill your spot, we won’t be able to offer a refund or credit. Location

Art from the Urban Wilderness at Hive Studios - Hive Studios, Unit 13/10 Depot Street, Banyo QLD

The studio is located in a commercial complex on the corner of Earnshaw Road and Depot Street, near the old Golden Circle Cannery. As you enter the complex, look for the number #13 and the Art from the Urban Wilderness signs. There are 3 onsite car parks. During the week, we recommend you park on the road and walk up the driveway. If you have lots of gear you can drop it off and then park. If you need to park close to the door for accessibility reasons, let us know prior so we can reserve a park for you. On weekends or after hours, you can park within the complex in a marked car parking bay (not in front of roller doors), as its very quiet then.

Rachael Lee approaches her art practice with the same curiosity that she brings to exploring her local natural surroundings. She works with non-toxic experimental printmaking techniques, creating layered works using linocut, etched linocut, stencils, collagraph, drypoint and monoprinting. By combining shape, line and texture in her prints she seeks to highlight the underlying patterns, rhythms and soothing effects of nature.

Rachael is passionate about sharing her printmaking knowledge and over the last ten years has exhibited, given artist talks and run workshops for teachers, students and community groups in Southeast Queensland.

Art from the Urban Wilderness is a community art studio located at Hive Studios in Banyo, northside Brisbane/Meanjin.
The studio was founded by artist Sandra Pearce in 2021, and specialises in the techniques of printmaking, papermaking, drawing, bookbinding and artist books. We offer workshops, courses, social art days, and artist talk events.
Our mission is to build an inclusive art community that nurtures creative authenticity, confidence and resilience. We also believe in the power of art to break the cycle of disaffection towards nature, to enrich lives and inspire care for the environment.
The studio is fully air-conditioned with some onsite parking as well as street parking.
