Art from the Urban Wilderness at Hive Studios - Hive Studios, Unit 13/10 Depot Street, Banyo QLD

The studio is located in a commercial complex on the corner of Earnshaw Road and Depot Street, near the old Golden Circle Cannery. As you enter the complex, look for the number #13 and the Art from the Urban Wilderness signs. There are 3 onsite car parks. During the week, we recommend you park on the road and walk up the driveway. If you have lots of gear you can drop it off and then park. If you need to park close to the door for accessibility reasons, let us know prior so we can reserve a park for you. On weekends or after hours, you can park within the complex in a marked car parking bay (not in front of roller doors), as its very quiet then.

  • 5/5 from Janine Prince, attended May 2026: Rachel Lee's linocut class today was an excellent experience in every way. The venue is modern, clean and accessible with on site and on-street parking. There are kitchen facilities to offset the lack of local eateries for longer workshops. Rachel clearly introduced herself, her work and the key techniques and processes for linocut print making. As promised, all tools and supplies were on hand, clean, in good working order and ready for us to use. At each point, Rachel described what we would be doing, how to do it and encouraged us to test and experiment. She helped us understand the choices and decisions in selecting tools, papers and inks, often with examples from her own folio and with her extensive experience. The atmosphere was encouraging and supportive with great and continual opportunities to ask questions and or get personal tutoring. The space was welcoming and calm with thoughtful workbench layouts and comfy chairs. We all produced a linocut block and multiple prints using different techniques. I learned an enormous amount through Rachel's instructions and demonstrations. I also leaves from my fellow attendees who shared their own insights and asked their own questions. I am delighted that I made the time and effort to book this class and recommend it to beginners and those who want a thorough refresher or who have dabbled in adjacent print techniques and want a transitional workshop. One of the things I particularly valued was the chance to do some hand prints as well as use a press. It was invaluable to see the difference in outcome between the two (using same paper and ink). We had enough time to talk through our outcomes and ask follow-up questions. An excellent workshop in every way and the hours just flew by.
  • 5/5 from Sitara Gare, attended May 2026: I loved the Linocut printing workshop with Rachel. I have done 3 others with other teachers and this one I picked up a lot more tricks than previous workshops elsewhere. Rachel's relaxed style of teaching made the day fun not about outcomes. Look forward to attending the advanced workshop when it happens.
