Rings are a symbol of commitment, dedication and partnership. What better way to symbolise this partnership than to personally hand-make each other’s ring? Working under the guidance of Fran, an expert jeweller, you will use traditional handcrafting techniques to work with metal to create your piece from start to finish.
This is the ultimate romantic experience and a great way to add a little extra sentimental touch to the rings you will cherish for a lifetime.
Essential techniques covered:
  • Metal cutting – learn how to saw-pierce metal using professional jewellery saw frames.
  • Texturing and stamping – whether it’s a hammered texture or stamping, there is a range of tools to experiment with.
  • Anneal and Soldering – using special jewellery torches watch how to anneal metal and solder.
  • Finishing – learn how to file and use emery paper to give your earrings a final finish.
Set in the Blue Mountains, Lady Bird Studio / Karinya has expansive views over a valley of trees, as the property backs onto the national park. It is an inspiring and romantic setting for learning how to make a ring with your other half.

  • 5/5 from Cameron Moore, attended Mar 2026: I had such a wonderful time making rings with my partner. Fran was an amazing teacher and made the process so easy and fun. Both our rings turned out so beautiful and made for a perfect keepsake for our holiday - could not recommend her more!
  • 5/5 from Sam Williams, attended Dec 2024: My partner and I attended the couples silver ring making class and we both thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a fun and informative experience and i would recommend it to anyone who has any interest in beginners jewelry making classes, or is just looking for an activity in the Blue Mountains. Fran put on a great class and we had a terrific day.
  • 5/5 from Jessica Creanor, attended Oct 2024: We celebrated our anniversary (5 months late, but better late than never). We struggled to look for something to work with the traditional wedding anniversary gifts, and my husband stumbled across this experience. We were specifically looking to work with copper, and this initially sort of fit the bill. Upon making contact with Fran, it was apparent how accommodating and thoughtful she was in trying to work with us for what we were after, ordering in specific hybrid silver/copper metal to work with (we were a private class). Fran was wonderful in taking us through step by step and went to the trouble of explaining the reasons behind procedures, which made us more invested and informed. She was open to our ideas of designs and helped us bring them to life. The location is cosy and welcoming - I actually loved having a private, because it felt like we could 'take up space' and feel at home. The whole experience was wonderful from beginning to end, giving us a newfound appreciation for the craftsmanship of silversmithing. 10/10 would recommend thank you Fran!
  • 5/5 from Emilia Hornas, attended Jan 2024: Wonderful experience with a super friendly and helpful teacher, Fran. Was very attentive and we were to work through each step with ease while enjoying an amazing view. Cannot recommend enough!

Fran is an artist; an educator, neither overshadows, they simply entwine and enrich one another.
At a young age Fran discovered the value of creating art in her daily life. The act of art helped Fran express her identity. The process of developing an idea, especially with jewellery, seeing that idea come to completion by Fran's own hand filled her with satisfaction and accomplishment.  Fran began to see how creating art helped other aspects of my life and learning.
Fran is inspired by nature, patterns, form and texture. Each created piece portrays a slice of life, a perspective of the world in which we all live. Her mediums span painting and jewellery to collage and stitching. They all bring joy, though not everything turns out how she envisaged.
In particular Fran sees the unique design and individually handcrafted nature of bespoke jewellery as an ornamental way of extending personal self-expression. During the creative process, she is mindful that someone will be wearing the piece and it will come alive only when it finds its owner.
Fran is most comfortable in the studio classroom teaching art than in any other place or endeavour. It fills her soul to help others learn by exposing them to tools, materials and techniques of Fran's trade and then develop their skills and confidence in the creative medium.
Through support, conversation and laughter, I set a welcoming scene of free expression.
Ladybird Design Creative Studio is the culmination of creating a life around my passions of art, jewellery and teaching. It frees Fran to take a piece of silver, blank canvas or paper, turn it into a beautiful thing and share it with the world every day. Fran believes now more than ever that pursuing one’s passions makes life more colourful and vibrant, gives us pleasure and purpose, but most of all it reminds us of who we are.
Fran would love to share the joy of creating and making with you.
