Merry Krampus Watercolour Workshop

Limited Edition dark folklore watercolour experience

3 hours 10 mins Location Abbotsford, Reservoir Class size 1 to 6 guests   $80 - $90 ($90 per guest when you book for 1+ guests, $85/guest for 3 guests, $80/guest for 4+ guests)

Step into the dark and mischievous world of Krampusnacht and discover the art of watercolour in this beginner-friendly workshop inspired by Alpine folklore and spooky Christmas traditions. In this three-hour class, you’ll be guided through a series of darkly whimsical festive studies, exploring how watercolour can be used to create eerie characters, rich shadows, moody colours, and delightfully spooky details. Whether you’ve never picked up a brush before or want to build your confidence with watercolour, this workshop will give you the skills to create your own gothic Christmas/Krampusnacht card or folklore-inspired artwork.
You’ll begin with guided exercises exploring:
  • Creating transparent layers of colour
  • Building light and shadow with watercolour
  • Creating soft edges and atmospheric effects
  • Using wet-on-wet and wet-on-dry techniques
  • Creating the illusion of glowing light
Once you feel comfortable with the techniques, you’ll move into four Krampus-inspired studies. You’ll learn how to:
  • Paint a spooky zombie snowman using cool washes, layered shadows, and creepy character details.
  • Create a traditional birch switch using fine brushstrokes, delicate twig details, and contrasting ribbon colours.
  • Paint Krampus’ Punishment Bucket using warm, earthy washes, layered shadows, and fine details to create the look of aged wood and worn metal.
  • Create a gothic candy cane using bold contrasting colours, curved stripes, and darkly whimsical festive details.
In the final portion of the class, you’ll put your new skills to the test with a self-led Krampusnacht painting that can either be a card or artwork. Using the techniques and elements you’ve learned throughout the workshop, you’ll create your own darkly whimsical Krampus card/artwork —
whether that’s a sinister Krampusnacht scene featuring Krampus’ eerie belongings, a mischievous zombie snowman wreaking havoc, a darkly whimsical festive arrangement, or a chilling folklore-inspired Christmas card filled with twisted candy canes and ominous winter characters.
You’ll have the freedom to combine the elements however you like and add your own Krampus-inspired details, making your final artwork uniquely yours.
Please note that this workshop requires at least two bookings in a session to run for Reservoir and three for Abbotsford.
