Chieko Yamazaki Hester
Growing up in Japan, I fondly remember my fascination and enthusiasm for origami beginning around 6 years old, when my father taught me to fold a paper crane.
Origami is an ancient cultural discipline, reflective of both the complexity and simplicity of nature and the world around us. Eastern philosophy teaches that mastery of technique takes practice, patience and time.Whilst my origami pieces are based on tradition, I am influenced by my desire to combine both Eastern and Western design aesthetics.I am challenged to explore and expand upon my knowledge of paper folding, and present my art works in a variety of formats. These include framed 3D works, Hanging works, Stand alone objects and gift cards.I enjoy feedback from clients and customers. It inspires me to customise and personalise my work – and keeps me motivated to try new things. My studio is a light filled work space in my newly built “Japanese –Australian” home, which I share with my Australian husband and two kids. Looking out upon my growing Japanese garden inspires me and this is something I try to convey through my art works – a sense of calm and serenity, the joy of nature, and the beauty in simple things.ClassBento has verified that Kami Paper has a valid Working with Children Check clearance.
