Tips and techniques to continue finger knitting independently at home
This is more than a craft class. It's three hours of slowing down, getting creative, and sharing a genuinely lovely experience with others, all while building a skill you'll carry home with you.
Finger knitting is a wonderfully simple craft that uses your hands instead of needles, making it accessible for absolutely everyone. The gentle, repetitive movements feel naturally calming, while the ultra-soft chunky chenille yarn creates a comforting, sensory experience as you work. Many students describe it as meditative, you'll be amazed at how quickly you settle into the rhythm of it.
Gemma will guide the group step-by-step through every stage, so whether you've never touched a skein of yarn in your life or you just love discovering new creative hobbies, you'll feel completely supported from the very first stitch to the last.

Hi, I’m Gemma, the hands and heart behind Cosy Knits by Gemma.
Before I ever picked up a skein of chunky chenille yarn, I was a midwife. I loved caring for women and babies, but after years in the profession I experienced significant burnout and trauma, and was later diagnosed with PTSD. During that season, I was searching for a hobby that would be gentle, something rhythmic and grounding to help regulate my nervous system. That’s when I found finger knitting.
The repetitive motion, the softness of the yarn and the simplicity of creating with my hands brought a sense of calm I hadn’t felt in a long time. What began as personal healing slowly turned into a creative passion, and eventually a growing handmade business selling plush toys, blankets and cosy décor at markets across Brisbane and online.
I love teaching because I know firsthand how powerful creativity can be. In my workshops, it’s not just about making a blanket, it’s about slowing down, building confidence and experiencing the quiet pride of finishing something beautiful with your own hands. I create a supportive, beginner-friendly space where there’s no pressure to be perfect.
Something people often don’t realise? You don’t need knitting needles, prior experience or natural “talent.” Finger knitting is accessible, meditative and surprisingly empowering.
I bring years of experience in creating safe, nurturing environments through my midwifery background, and I now combine that with my creative skills to offer workshops that feel calm, welcoming and genuinely restorative.
I’m incredibly proud of building this business from the ground up, from a coffee table hobby to a recognised handmade brand and I’m passionate about helping others rediscover their creativity too.
