Introduction to Drypoint Workshop

A comprehensive introduction to etching (engraving) on acetate

3 hours Class size 2 to 4 guests

  $70 - $80 ($70 for Child/concession; $80 for Adult)

Looking to get in touch with your inner artist? Why not learn how to make your own unique pieces of art at Kaya Jewers' beginner-friendly etching workshop in Melbourne!
In this class, you will learn how to etch and print an acetate drypoint. You'll learn about the drypoint process, inking, paper choice. The great thing about drypoint is the detail you can achieve just by making more or fewer marks! It allows you to do nice reproductions of photographs and keep the integrity of sketches too. Small classes with a maximum of 4 people means individualised attention.
A friendly expert will run you through some quick examples and some different ways to print at home without a press. You'll also discover ways you can recycle materials you may have around the house!
You'll learn how to etch your plate with your own design or photograph. Once you've completed these few steps you'll then get to print your etching onto paper!
At the end of the class, you will have a small edition of unique prints to take home or gift to a loved one!

  • 5/5 from Stephen Gartlan, attended May 2023: Throughly enjoyed it. We'll set up and timing is just right. Kaya takes through how to do it slowly and gives you type and tricks asking the way about what works well and what doesn't, etc. Fantastic equipment and a lovely gentle atmosphere. Kaya also tells you how to sign it after it dries according to printer etiquette and how to adapt for home and where to get the things you need of you're interested in doing more. I'd go again.

Very good to do the four prints on the water colour paper and excitement with how much ink left on the plate to see the different prints from these. A very enjoyable experience that I would recommend to anyone.

I am a printmaker based in Melbournes East. I've been passionate about printmaking since I first studied it in 2002. My studio, Hazy Bubble Studio, is located in Kew East.
I've produced prints in just about every form of printmaking from lithography to aquatint, to monoprint, and all things in between.
I currently have a small press and my studio is spacious enough to host small, focused groups.
