Halloween is just around the corner! Let your child get creative and paint their very own Halloween tote bag — perfect for taking out trick-or-treating or using long after Halloween is over.
In this fun, hands-on workshop, kids will transform a plain cotton/canvas tote bag into their own piece of useful art.
We’ll have plenty of Halloween inspiration available, including bats, pumpkins, spooky shapes, and other designs. Kids can use stencils, experiment with colours, combine different images, add words or lettering, or create something completely of their own.
There’s no need for everyone’s bag to look the same — we love encouraging kids to make creative choices and develop a design that feels like theirs.
During the workshop, kids will learn how to:
  • use fabric paints
  • work with stencils and layered designs
  • choose and combine colours
  • plan a design for their tote bag
  • add their own creative details and finishing touches
No previous art experience is needed. The workshop is designed to be relaxed, accessible, and fun, with guidance available when children need it and plenty of freedom for those who are ready to follow their own ideas.
We are offering sessions for both primary and secondary school-aged children, with ages from around 5 to 17 years catered for.
Choose your tote bag
You can choose between:
  • a smaller tote bag — approximately 25 Ă— 29 cm
  • a larger tote bag — approximately 32 Ă— 36 cm
Different prices apply depending on the size selected.
Most bags are natural cream in colour, with some slightly whiter bags available.
After the workshop
The fabric paint may still be a little wet when the bag is taken home. We encourage you to bring a plastic bag, tray, or something similar to help transport it safely.
Fabric paint should then be allowed to dry for approximately 24 hours before being ironed to heat-set the paint. We’ll explain how to do this so your child can enjoy their finished bag again and again.
Please wear clothes suitable for painting, as fabric paint is designed to be permanent and may not wash out of clothing.
For parents and carers
Parents and carers are welcome to stay during the workshop, but this is not required unless your child needs individualised support.
If you plan to stay, please let us know in the checkout comments. Due to space in the studio, we ask that a maximum of one accompanying adult stays with each child.
Come and join us at Live For Art for this creative Halloween activity in Melbourne — where kids can learn something new, experiment with fabric painting, and head home with a one-of-a-kind tote bag they’ll be proud to show off — especially when it’s time for trick-or-treating!
