Make a clay slab (slab-building)

Make a Clay Slab (slab-building)

Step 1 – Wedge the clay:
Wedge (knead) your clay to remove air bubbles and prepare it for hand-building. This ensures your clay slab is strong and won’t crack during firing.

Step 2 – Create a clay slab:
Shape the clay into a patty and use a wooden rolling pin to roll it into a flat slab. This slab is the foundation for slab-building projects and the base for pressed flower and foliage designs.

Arrange flowers and foliage

Arrange Flowers and Foliage

Place your chosen flowers, leaves or foliage gently on top of the clay slab. This is where the workshop becomes nature-inspired—experiment with layouts to create unique floral patterns.

Step 4 – Press and imprint

Step 4 – Press and Imprint

Use your rolling pin or hands to press the flowers into the clay. This creates a beautiful botanical imprint / floral print that will be highlighted once your piece is glazed.

Step 5 – Peel and reveal

Step 5 – Peel and Reveal

Carefully lift the flowers and foliage to reveal the natural textures they’ve left behind. Each clay slab will show unique pressed flower details—no two are ever the same.

  • 5/5 from Wendy Dang, attended Aug 2026: Super fun and relaxing class, perfect for a rainy afternoon! We learnt the basics of pottery and how to work with clay before getting stuck into it and letting our inner creativeness flow. Can't wait to see our finished final product.
  • 5/5 from Gayatri Murali, attended Aug 2026: I received the class as a birthday gift from my daughter. My daughter and I did the pressed flower class. The teacher was friendly, the studio was beautifulluy set up, we even had hot drinks available which was awesome for the cold weather. The teacher explained how to work with clay and the techniques. Then we got to play with the clay ourselves. The teacher was approachable incase we needed for help with the clay and techniques. The best part of this was we were given the freedom to make what we wanted with encouragement and support. It was fun working with clay and making something creative. Cannot wait to get the finished product in few weeks :) I loved it so much that I have recommended the class to my friends and we will be booking as a group very soon.
  • 5/5 from Mon L, attended Jun 2026: Very calming and supportive class!
  • 5/5 from Kristina Nasuti, attended Oct 2025: Teacher was so lovely and energetic / made the whole class feel so fun and relaxed! Had a great time
  • 5/5 from Brea Carlton, attended Sep 2024: The most amazing pottery afternoon for our dear Chloe’s bridal shower! From booking online, to having the option to hire out glasses and serving ware, to the amazing hospitality and knowledge of the girls on the day - this has by far been the best company to communicate and organise an event with. Cannot fault anything and will be recommending to all my friends - you are all amazing and made our afternoon truly special! Thankyou!!
  • 5/5 from Emma Teng, attended Mar 2024: Love the location in Freo where parking was aplenty and studio setup was very nice with lots of room. The teacher was really friendly and helpful and she even provided us with drinks and snacks (love the coconut macaroons) Teacher even encouraged us to take our time and work on our art piece, even working beyond the 2 hour workshop allocation unlike many other workshops I've attended where I was rushed into finishing within the time limit. I have attended another workshop before using pottery wheel but I find this workshop where we do not use the wheel much more manageable and I can create pieces all by hand. And I learnt so much at a good relaxed pace on the different ways I can decorate a piece of pottery (stamp embossing, pinching, flower embellishment, painting, lettering)! I bought the voucher during a Buy One Get One Free promotion (& it was really good that ClassBento honoured and allowed me to use the voucher for workshops on a much later late) but even at the usual price of $135, I think the workshop is of great value. Both my husband and I attended the workshop and we enjoyed it so much that we are inspired and keen to do more pottery. I have shared the info with friends and we are already discussing having group workshop e.g. to celebrate a friend's 50th birthday or my husband's office EOY function. Thank you so much for a great & fun workshop
  • 5/5 from Marina Nothacker, attended Jan 2024: We really enjoyed doing the workshop and loved how it was all set up! Our teacher was great and she explained everything super well, helped everyone out when it was needed, gave some great ideas and tips, and just made us feel so welcomed and inspired to be creative! I can't wait to see the end products once they're ready! Something I would definitely do again :)
  • 5/5 from Paris Townsend, attended Jan 2024: Shiloh is amazing! Have done two of her classes and highly recommend both the clay and flower classes
  • 5/5 from Holly Anning, attended Jul 2023: Shiloh provides a safe space to let leash your creativity! She provides just the right amount of help so you can fulfil your pottery dreams and feel accomplished! The vibe was relaxing and welcoming. Great tunes to work to and have a chat with new friends and old. She provided teas, coffee, and bikkies. Also mindful of dietary requirements aswell making everyone feel welcomed and thought of. The botanicals were beautiful and fresh and provided the perfect decoration for the space and for the pottery! An easy to find and beautiful creative space in freo. Thanks for an amazing afternoon of fun and pottering around Shiloh.
  • 5/5 from Alexia Notarangelo, attended Jul 2023: From the start, the teacher had a friendly and bubbly personality, very accomadating and caring. I went by myself and the whole class had a fun and inclusive atmosphere. Making the clay was addictively fun. It is an excellent mindful process!
  • 5/5 from Emmanuel Blondel, attended Jul 2023: Shiloh is so welcoming inclusive and informative As a newby I felt like I’d done this before I loved it! I can’t wait to eat the best olives, dips in the best olive/dip bowl
  • 5/5 from Nicola Chisholm, attended Jul 2023: Delightful teacher who is welcoming and genuine. Stress free and fun class in a lovely setting.
  • 5/5 from Sophie Dunsford, attended Jul 2023: The teacher Shiloh was LOVELY. She is so welcoming, warm and passionate. The workspace was set up beautifully with a station of materials for each student. Shiloh demonstrated the process, and encouraged and assisted us while we worked on our creations. I will definitely be back for more workshops in future.
  • 5/5 from Natalie Quick, attended Jun 2023: Venue was great, teacher was fantastic. Had a fantastic afternoon and left feeling very inspired absolutely enjoyed the whole experience
  • 5/5 from Nadia Oliveira, attended Jun 2023: The set up was so beautiful! Shiloh has such a great vibe! Her enthusiasm is contagious and an amazing teacher! I arrived there with zero experience and I couldn't believe I was making something beautiful following her steps and with her assistance. Can't wait to book next class! Ah the banana bread was delicious too! :) Thank you for sharing your passion with us!
  • 5/5 from Kaelen Ruland, attended Apr 2023: The perfect mindful morning activity to share with a partner on a Sunday. Shiloh’s enthusiasm in sharing her passion is an added bonus to the knowledge she shares during the workshop.
  • 5/5 from Tahlia Stevens, attended Apr 2023: Shiloh is pure sunshine! My husband and I booked the clay making/pottery workshop and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was fun creating our own pieces with the help of Shiloh, who showed us the easy steps to DIY, with humour and warmth. I only wish I had longer to enjoy myself!
  • 5/5 from Samantha Doughty, attended Apr 2023: I booked Happy Hub’s Pressed Flower Pottery Workshop as something creative to do for my sister’s birthday last week. Needless to say, we both loved it! Shiloh’s positivity and enthusiasm for what she does is contagious, and she was always available to answer questions or help us out when we needed assistance. As a total beginner and a perfectionist, I was surprised at how meditative the process of making the pottery was. We will definitely be back for another class!
  • 5/5 from Tegan Wimmer, attended Apr 2023: It was a very relaxing and fun way to start a morning thank you for a lovely time
  • 5/5 from Leisa Chamberlain, attended Nov 2022: Shiloh was fabulously, positive n beams, energy n enthusiasm. Learnt simple clay making tequniques but most importantly learnt to let go, have fun n dig into my creativity. Loved being free with the clay, using floral design in a bright and relaxing space. Only 1 thing to note. It's a little hard to find the venue. Bighter signage would be helpful. Will definately recommend to others. Thankyou Shiloh. Your a breathe of fresh air.
  • 4/5 from Moulina Sahai, attended Nov 2022: The location on a map could be better, I struggled to find the place. The teacher was fabulous but I felt very rushed because she ended the class at 11:00 instead of 11:30 as it said in the email. All the instructions and material was great and loved the flowers. Overall great value for the products The teacher could have walked around and asked people how to help more I feel. She was busy perfecting her own piece Maybe a tv with a demo running would be great for the shy people who don't want to ask for help
