Make a clay slab (slab-building)

Make a Clay Slab (slab-building)

Step 1 – Wedge the clay:
Wedge (knead) your clay to remove air bubbles and prepare it for hand-building. This ensures your clay slab is strong and won’t crack during firing.

Step 2 – Create a clay slab:
Shape the clay into a patty and use a wooden rolling pin to roll it into a flat slab. This slab is the foundation for slab-building projects and the base for pressed flower and foliage designs.

Arrange flowers and foliage

Arrange Flowers and Foliage

Place your chosen flowers, leaves or foliage gently on top of the clay slab. This is where the workshop becomes nature-inspired—experiment with layouts to create unique floral patterns.

Step 4 – Press and imprint

Step 4 – Press and Imprint

Use your rolling pin or hands to press the flowers into the clay. This creates a beautiful botanical imprint / floral print that will be highlighted once your piece is glazed.

Step 5 – Peel and reveal

Step 5 – Peel and Reveal

Carefully lift the flowers and foliage to reveal the natural textures they’ve left behind. Each clay slab will show unique pressed flower details—no two are ever the same.
