Sneaker Freaker: Sneaker Painting Workshop

5 hours Class size 12 to 40 guests

$80 - $160 ($80 for Byo canvas sneakers; $160 for Etiko sneakers) (PayPal Pay in 4 available)

Step into creativity and walk out in a pair of sneakers like no one else’s. In this hands-on, BYO-friendly workshop, you’ll design and paint your very own pair of custom sneakers, guided by multi-disciplinary artist Zena Dubray. We’ll be creating to the sound of fresh hip hop beats, setting a fun, expressive vibe throughout the session.

We’ll kick things off with a quick dive into sneaker culture and a look at different techniques and styles you can use to bring your ideas to life. You’ll then experiment with paints and pens on spare canvas swatches before moving onto the real deal. BYO canvas sneakers or add on a fresh pair of Etiko Fairtrade canvas sneakers (valued at $135, for this workshop only $80).

Along the way, you’ll learn how to create designs that last, explore colour combinations, and even customise extras like your shoelaces or add sneaker jewellery. This is a relaxed, creative session open to everyone; whether you’re an artist, a sneakerhead, or just keen to try something new. Feel free to bring your own drinks or snacks to enjoy as you work.

We’re thrilled to be collaborating with Etiko, a local, sustainable fashion brand that’s Fairtrade, organic, and vegan; proving that creativity and ethics go hand in hand. Fast fashion is one of the leading causes of pollution worldwide, and for that reason Zena spent considerable time sourcing the best methods for executing this project. That search led her to Etiko; a local business doing its part by creating truly sustainable fashion.

If choosing a pair of Etiko shoes, please note they use UK sizing. For a comparison chart, see the images above.

Please note: ticket sales close 48 hours before event to allow time to get sneakers from Etiko.

Please note: This class requires a minimum of 5 students to run. In the unlikely event that we do not reach this number, the class will be cancelled and you will receive a full refund. You will be notified via email a few days prior to the scheduled date.

Zena Dubray

4.5 (2)

Zena Dubray is a multidisciplinary artist from the Gold Coast, now based in Melbourne since 2016. Her creative practice spans across visual art and fashion, with a strong focus on sustainability and upcycling. What began as drawing and stitching imagery onto denim has grown into a dynamic exploration of materials and techniques, including painting with screen-printing inks and working with stencils.

Building on these experiments, Zena has recently expanded her practice into custom sneaker painting. Inspired by the idea of making wearable art both accessible and environmentally conscious, she has partnered with Etiko, a local ethical fashion brand known for its fair-trade sneakers and clothing.

Through her sneaker painting workshops, Zena invites participants to experiment, play, and express themselves by transforming sneakers into one-of-a-kind fashion statements. Her sessions are designed to be high-quality, inclusive, and beginner-friendly—welcoming all experience levels to step into the world of custom footwear design.
