What you'll do
Learn about glass fusing and make a beautiful fused glass art piece at this kids glass fusing class in Melbourne. Perfect for school holiday activities, casual sessions and birthday parties for kids! This class is designed for children 10 years plus. Usually, glass art is a complex and expensive activity but at Merryl's Mosaics we have come up with a design techniques that are simple, fun and affordable and produce beautiful results. In this two-and-a-half-hour class, kids will have an opportunity to try glass fusing and choose what they want to make. Fusing glass is when you take a base piece of glass, put a glass design of your choice on it, and then fire the two layers of glass into one piece. The firing takes place in a kiln which is like an oven for glass, setting different temperatures for different outcomes. For example, the glass can be fired smooth or textured. You can also choose to full fuse your piece into a flat piece, or slump the glass into a dish. Kids will only handle cold glass. At the end of this creative workshop, the piece will be left at Merryl’s Mosaics for firing and can be picked up about 10 days later.Glass fusing is a calming and mindful experience. This, together with being creative, social and relaxing, makes it a unique experience where kids are happy to leave their technology at home and enjoy the moment.Come and give it a go. Your child will love it! And you will be astounded by the results.
