6-Week Beginner Glass Blowing Course

Brisbane's only beginner glassblowing course. Six evenings, two people per cohort. Limited places for 2027!

6 x 2 hours Class size 1 to 2 guests       $1,320

New year's resolution to learn something new? Kick off 2027 with something truly exciting and join our 6-week glassblowing course.
Places are very limited. Just two people per cohort.
Join Zadi Studios for six evenings of hands-on furnace glassblowing in Brisbane's only public-access furnace studio. You'll learn to work with molten glass, make actual things from scratch, and leave with a genuine grounding in one of the world's oldest craft traditions.
No experience needed. Some pieces will break along the way and that's part of learning. By the end you'll have a real understanding of the craft and a collection of pieces you made yourself.
What you'll learn
  • How to collect glass from the furnace and the different methods for doing so
  • The physics behind fundamental shapes (cups, bowls and vases) and how to practise them with intention
  • What is a punty, how to make them and why different types are used at different times
  • How to read and respond to glass as it moves, cools and changes
  • The rhythms and flow of a real working hot shop
  • How to work as a team, which is half of glassblowing!

Please note: Public dates for this class require at least 2 guests to run. In the unlikely event that we don't reach this number, we may cancel the session; if that happens, we'll inform you and let you choose between a refund or reschedule, so please watch your email/SMS one day prior to the class.
What you'll get
  • Six progressive Wednesday evening sessions, each building on the last
  • All tools, materials, safety glasses, and PPE included
  • A genuine understanding of the fundamentals of furnace glassblowing
  • A collection of finished pieces. Most students will leave with at least 6, and sometimes up to 10 or 12, depending on how the sessions go! There will be a lot more practice pieces which don't make it through the session
  • Special offers for future sessions and hire

Hi! My name is Tam, I am the founder of Zadi Studios!

I fell in love with glass as a child. There was just something about it. The colour, the movement, the fact that something so hot and wild could be coaxed into something beautiful. I never quite got over it.
After a COVID “what am I doing with my life?!” moment, I decided to finally try it. Shortly afterwards, I was selected to study at the Corning Museum of Glass in New York. That was it. I was hooked.
What had started as a childhood fascination suddenly became a very serious obsession. I decided I wanted to learn the craft properly, and somehow managed to convince a Murano glass master to take me on as an apprentice. Then came the less glamorous part: months of immigration paperwork, working rights and trying to convince various authorities that this was, in fact, a sensible thing to do.
Eventually, I quit my secure government job, packed up my life, spent pretty much all of my savings and moved to Italy. At 30-something, I left behind the sensible, stable path to start again at the bottom of a furnace.
For three years, I lived and worked alongside Murano's glass masters, learning a craft that has been passed from maestro to apprentice for generations. I was one of only a handful of women working on the island and am believed to be the only Australian to have undertaken a traditional Muranese apprenticeship, becoming a 'serventino' within a Murano furnace.
I love glass because it is a bit like dancing. It takes patience, practice and an enormous amount of repetition, but somehow, in the middle of all that heat and chaos, it quietens my mind.
I love teaching for exactly the same reason I love making. Glass is wonderfully physical, playful and addictive. I want people to experience that for themselves, whether they consider themselves creative or not. I am passionate about preserving traditional crafts, and opening up accessibility to them.
I would be honoured if you joined me.
I currently offer beginner glassmaking classes, with expressions of interest open for longer courses and masterclasses with visiting Murano maestri.
I can't wait to share the dream with you. Let's open up the furnace doors in Queensland!

About Zadi Studios
Zadi Studios is a glassblowing studio in Brisbane, Queensland.
We're passionate about access to this craft and sharing learnings from all around the world.
Glass has been made on the island of Murano for more than 700 years. Its techniques have been handed down from maestro to apprentice, almost entirely by hand and by word of mouth. Zadi Studios was founded to carry that knowledge across the world and share it here, with real respect for where it came from.
What we do
Right now we run beginner glassmaking classes for anyone curious enough to give it a go. You don't need to be "arty" or have done anything like this before. You just need to be willing to get stuck in. Glass is hot, physical, playful, and completely absorbing. Our classes are about feeling that for yourself, not just watching from behind a barrier.
Every class is grounded in traditional Muranese technique. These are the same skills Tam learned over three years on the furnace floor in Murano, taught with plenty of patience and a good dose of fun.
Where we're heading
Queensland doesn't have nearly enough places to make glass, and we want to change that. Our mission is to open the furnace doors in QLD and make glass art genuinely accessible here.
We're starting small, but we're not planning to stay that way. Over time we'll be bringing in more furnaces and more space, so more people can learn, make, and create.
Here's what's coming:
  • Longer courses for people who've caught the bug and want to build real skills
  • Masterclasses with visiting Murano maestri, bringing masters from the island to teach in Australia
  • Collaborations and gaffing with artists and other crafts
  • A membership model, giving makers ongoing access to the studio, furnace time, and a community of fellow glass lovers
  • More furnaces and more space as the studio grows
Expressions of interest are open now for longer courses and masterclasses. Register your interest and you'll be first to know when places open!
Why it matters
Traditional crafts like Murano glassmaking are disappearing. They're hard to learn, harder to access, and have often been closed to outsiders. Zadi Studios exists to help keep these skills alive and to build a place in Queensland where anyone can find their way to the furnace.
We're just getting started. Come and join us.
