Advanced Digital SLR Photography Class

This advanced photography class is for anyone who wants to master their Digital SLR camera. It's recommended that you have taken our basic courses Capturing Joy and Travel and Landscape Photography as they lay the foundations for this course.

Our professional photographer will take all the mystery and guesswork out of operating your SLR and teach you how to use a digital SLR or mirrorless camera in any conditions. Bring your own camera along so you have lots of hands on practice and you'll receive a more advanced customised cheat card to your camera settings so you don't have to worry about remembering all of the details.

We'll go through one tip at a time in the studio and then head outside to have some hands on practice. Then we'll head back inside to learn the next idea and so on. You can ask as many questions as you like and once you've attended and paid for this workshop you can come back to this class for free anytime over the course of one year.

In the class you will learn how to:

• Shoot in a variety of situations such as: night and low-light photography, people photography, action and movement photography, landscape photography, close-up photography, Off-camera flash photography and flash effects indoors and outdoors
• Compose beautiful photos
• Get the most out of the "manual" modes of the camera: Av, Tv and M (or A, S and M)
• See light and colour like a camera, and how to see in black-and-white
• Choose your focus for moving and stationary subjects
• Go beyond your camera's limitations with computational photography
• Change perspective in photos
• Use blur and movement in your photos
• Use a range of accessories, including filters, macro lenses, extension tubes, off-camera flashes, reflectors.
• Shoot to make computer editing easier

We provide customised materials for each participant, so you need to let us know your camera details at least a week before the workshop.

Your camera with fresh batteries and enough space on a memory card to take at least 200 photos; any accessories you use (e.g. lenses, flashes, tripod, close-up equipment, filters); a selection of up to six photos for feedback - either prints or on a memory stick; your laptop if you wish; and your camera's instruction manual (we won't leave you to hunt for answers alone, but it's a useful reference for some of the obscure custom functions on the camera).
