Immerse yourself in the art of knife making with our comprehensive one day knife making class. This hands-on workshop takes you through the entire process of crafting your own custom hand-forged chef knife from start to finish. You’ll quickly discover why this class is our most popular!
Japanese chef knives are renowned for their sharpness, precision, and craftsmanship. Yours will be made using high-quality carbon steel and traditional forging techniques, resulting in a blade that holds a sharp edge for longer periods compared to many Western knives. Your handle will be made from wood; this will contribute to the overall balance and control during use.
Class overview:
  • Begin your journey by selecting from a variety of knife templates (for example: Japanese chef knives; Gyuto, Nakiri, Santoku, etc).
  • Learn the fundamentals of knife design and blade geometry.
  • Heat, hammer, and shape your knife under the guidance of our expert blacksmith, using traditional forging techniques to create a blade that is uniquely yours.
  • Refine your knife through precise grinding, ensuring a perfect balance and edge.
  • Polish and sharpen your blade to achieve a razor-sharp finish.
  • Fit your knife with a handle, adding the final touches to create a functional work of art.
Throughout the workshop, our skilled instructors will provide personalised guidance and support, ensuring you gain valuable skills and a deeper appreciation for the craft. By the end of the class, you’ll leave with a beautifully crafted knife, ready for use and a lasting memento of your time in our forge.
