Introduction to Oil Painting & Materials
We’ll begin with a short introduction to oil painting. You’ll learn about the materials provided, including brushes, paints, canvas, and palette setup. Your instructor will explain how oil paints work, how to mix colours, and the basic techniques used to build a classical painting.
Setting Up Your Canvas
You’ll learn how to position your canvas, organise your palette, and observe the still life composition in front of you. This step helps you prepare your materials and get comfortable before starting your painting.
Observing and Sketching the Still Life Composition
Next, we’ll explore the still life arrangement together. You’ll learn how to observe light, shadows, shapes and proportions in the composition. The instructor will guide you through how to simplify what you see so it becomes easier to sketch onto your canvas.
Mixing Colours & First Paint Layers
You’ll begin mixing colours on your palette and applying the first layers of paint to your canvas. Your instructor will guide you through basic colour mixing and how to block in the main shapes and tones of the still life.
Developing Your Painting
Once the first layers are in place, you’ll start refining your painting. Learn how to build depth with light and shadow, adjust colours, and add details that bring your still life to life. The instructor will provide personalised guidance throughout.
Final Touches & Details
Refine light and shadow, enhance colours, and add final details to bring your still life painting to life. The instructor will guide you in making small adjustments to improve depth, balance, and overall finish.
