What you'll do
Sink your hands into clay and make unique ceramics with The Art Department in Newcastle!
Our hand building class is the perfect combination of art and socialising, bring along a take away soy latte or green tea and get messy with clay..
Led by our professional pottery teachers, you'll learn fun and unique techniques while having the opportunity to relax, get messy, and connect with others in our open and friendly environment. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned artist, the only thing you need to bring is your imagination and creative spirit.
We promise you'll leave with your hands covered in clay, so there's no need to bring your own clay. Just bring your wonderful self and get ready to get your hands dirty!
If you left your items to dry or be fired in our studio, You'll get an SMS when they're ready for pickup. Please be sure to label your pieces and show us a pic to make it an easy collection for everyone. If you're taking your creation home, let it air dry for 4 weeks for best results. Shipping? Yes! Just $15 if you live in NSW and $18 for the rest of Australia. Please contact the team to arrange if you'd like us to post your pieces to you when they're ready.
*Work may crack or even explode during kiln firing; we do not offer refunds for such instances. If your piece is mistakenly picked up by someone else, we regret we cannot offer refunds. Ensure your name is clearly marked on your work.

Knowledge required
Beginner-friendly. No knowledge of pottery is needed.
What you'll get
All clay and tools and equipment provided. (we use mid fire clay and paint and finish with a sealant, air dried clay is softer on the environment, dry time is 4 weeks at home)Otherwise, you can leave it with us to clean, glaze and we fire two times. A Bisque and Glaze fire. $30 for a large piece or two small pieces.
We will contact you via sms to collect your masterpiece when ready.
What to bring
Bring yourselves and wear some old clothes and shoes that you don't mind getting clay on them.
