What you'll do

Have you ever wanted to learn how to decorate cupcakes like the professional pastry chefs do? Come and learn how to make stunning, beautifully-decorated cupcakes in this hands-on class. You will learn to pipe utilising a variety of piping tips, plus so much more.

In this class, you will:

Learn to fill a piping bag, fit a piping tip/nozzle and hold a piping bag to get the correct pressure.
Learn to use three different piping tips (nozzles).
Learn to colour buttercream using gel colours.
Decorate six cupcakes.

At the end of this workshop, you will take home your own box of six cupcakes, decorated with buttercream, to enjoy and share with loved ones.

This class is structured for adult learners. Participants must be 18 years of age to attend. 14-17 years may attend in the company of an adult class participant. Under no circumstances will under 14 year olds be admitted to class.

Please note:

To give you a pleasant learning experience, this class is restricted to four participants.
This class does not cater for allergies or gluten intolerances.
Suitable for age 18 years and up. 14-17 years must be accompanied by an adult class participant.
Please arrive 10 minutes before the start time.
Printed notes are not supplied in this class.
All participants must be fully Covid vaccinated and wear a mask at all times during this class.

My love of baking was formed at a very young age and some of my fondest memories as a child are when I was helping my Mother and Grandmother in the kitchen. Whilst I love all forms of cooking, baking is my favourite. I love to try new recipes and techniques and have developed some of my own recipes.

My decorating skills were not always as they are now but I always strived to improve. It was by accident, after a friend gifted me a decorating class almost 10 years ago, that I fell in love with cake decorating. Since then, I have sought out opportunities to improve my skills and have attended decorating classes with internationally renowned decorators.

My sister and I learnt so much with Janeen and were able to confidently use the piping skills we learnt and apply them to cupcakes at the end of the lesson. With little background in piping decorations on cupcakes, we were able to make beautiful creations at the end that we were proud of! Janeen was lovely company and took us through each step of the techniques! It was a great class, and we are hoping to come back in the future for some more advanced classes!

Janeen is a patient and knowledgeable instructor and truly passionate about what she does. Her somewhat pedantic correction of simple actions like holding the piping bag, and what constitutes 'firm', soon became apparent: it was all for the greater good. My sweet morsels look too good to eat! I can't wait to put the skills to use for family celebrations and to learn more from her.

I booked this as a birthday gift for my mum and we had the best time. The maximum number of people for this class was 4 which is perfect. The size of the class meant we got one on one attention, could ask questions and seek feedback on how to improve our technique.

The teacher was very knowledgeable and gave so many practical tips on everything from the baking process, to setting up for cupcake piping, making the icing, decorating and where/how to source the materials she used. We also received training materials which we took home and can use at any time.

Janeen was an excellent instructor who was extremely patient. There was time to watch Janeen perform the techniques, then practice before decorating actual cupcakes. The pace of the workshop was perfect with time to go over techniques when necessary. The workspace was pleasing and comfortable . The class was value for money and I would highly recommend it. As a beginner decorator, I felt totally at ease and will use the skills I have learned and develop them further.
