What you'll do
Join us for a delightful and creative workshop where you will learn the art of character creation. In this hands-on class, you will have the opportunity to let your imagination run wild as you develop your very own character from fantasy, a story, or your own imagination. All materials, including a delicious lunch and morning tea, will be provided, so you can simply relax and focus on unleashing your creativity.
During the workshop, you'll start by cutting out an image of a person or animal from a magazine or print. This image will serve as the foundation for your character. From there, you will dive into developing a character profile based on this image. You'll consider their background, personality, strengths, weaknesses, and any other unique traits that make them who they are.
Then comes the really fun part! Once you have your character profile, it's time to bring them to life on a canvas or board. Using a wide range of media, including papers, collage, paint, drawing, ink, glitter, fiber, fabric, and more, you will alter your image to suit your character profile. This process allows you to explore different artistic techniques and experiment with various materials to add depth and personality to your character.
The class will be guided by an experienced teacher who will provide helpful tips and guidance throughout the creative process. Whether you're a beginner or have some experience in art, this workshop is designed to accommodate all skill levels. Don't worry if you don't consider yourself an artist – the focus here is on relaxation and self-expression, so everyone is welcome.
As you immerse yourself in this creative experience, you will find a sense of joy and freedom in developing your character. This workshop provides a space for you to let go of any expectations and simply enjoy the process of bringing your imagination to life. By the end of the day, you'll have a unique and captivating character that you can proudly take home with you.

I am Ann, and my business name is ann.russell.art. I am based in the north west suburbs of brisbane and have many years experience as a practicing artist and as an arts educator. Over the years, I have helped many people realise their creative potential and develop their own art work as a hobby, profession and for relaxation.
I love to paint in watercolour and mixed media and also create surreal assemblage sculptures using glass, resin, polymer clay and found objects.
I am passionate about helping everyone find their visual language and believe that everyone can paint, draw and develop their own style. I have studied art and education to post graduate level and love to pass on what I have learned to others.
As a practicing artist, I have exhibited locally, interstate and overseas and have been selected as a finalist for a number of prestigious exhibitions.
