Hi there! I'm Kylie.
You may know me from my other creative businesses: Corque Luxe, Hello Clay and Kylie Makes.
I am here, however, to guide you on your Dorodango journey.
Dorodango, translating to “mud dumpling” in Japanese, is an art form where simple mud is transformed into glossy, decorative spheres.
Originating from Japan, dorodango was traditionally a children’s pastime, but it was elevated to an art form by Professor Fumio Kayo of the Kyoto University of Education in the late 1990s. Professor Kayo developed a method to create these mud balls with a smooth, marble-like finish, capturing the attention of artists and enthusiasts worldwide.
This art form highlights the beauty in simplicity and patience, turning what might be considered mundane into something extraordinary. The meditative process of making dorodango has also been likened to Zen practices, focusing on the act of creation itself.
Today, dorodango has transcended cultural boundaries, with workshops and exhibitions spreading its allure globally, celebrating both its aesthetic and therapeutic qualities.
