No prior experience needed, Rachael will guide you step by step and share professional tips developed through years of creative practise.
What you’ll learn:
  • How to transform cardboard packaging into an expressive printing plate
  • Easy methods for transferring your design onto the surface
  • Techniques to create line, tone and texture
  • How to ink and wipe your plate for striking highlights
  • Preparing dampened paper for printing
  • How to print your image using an etching press
  • Proof your plate to obtain the best possible print
You’ll work with quality printmaking papers and Sakura oil-based inks to create artworks that highlight the structure and creases of your recycled materials. You’ll even have the option to reassemble your plate into a sculptural 3D object!

The studio is located in a commercial complex on the corner of Earnshaw Road and Depot Street, near the old Golden Circle Cannery. As you enter the complex, look for the number #13 and the Art from the Urban Wilderness signs. There are 3 onsite car parks. During the week, we recommend you park on the road and walk up the driveway. If you have lots of gear you can drop it off and then park. If you need to park close to the door for accessibility reasons, let us know prior so we can reserve a park for you. On weekends or after hours, you can park within the complex in a marked car parking bay (not in front of roller doors), as its very quiet then.

Rachael Lee

Rachael Lee approaches her art practice with the same curiosity that she brings to exploring her local natural surroundings. She works with non-toxic experimental printmaking techniques, creating layered works using linocut, etched linocut, stencils, collagraph, drypoint and monoprinting. By combining shape, line and texture in her prints she seeks to highlight the underlying patterns, rhythms and soothing effects of nature.

Rachael is passionate about sharing her printmaking knowledge and over the last ten years has exhibited, given artist talks and run workshops for teachers, students and community groups in Southeast Queensland.
