What first started as a fun activity with some girlfriends quickly turned into a full blown obsession turn business!

9 years ago Nancy took night pottery classes with some friends for a bit of creative fun, quickly becoming hooked on the craft, she went down the rabbit hole and did a full year of classes before buying her very own pottery wheel.

"I knew I wouldn't be able to last the Christmas holidays without playing with clay, so I bought the first wheel I could find and quickly got my hands dirty at home." Nancy spent every spare minute she could creating anything clay related. From functional tableware on the wheel, to experimenting with hand building. Nancy soon realised the love that was developing for the pottery wheel and she focused fully on creating and improving her skills in the wheel.

While Nancy was slowly increasing her pottery skills in her down time, her day job lead her into RTO teaching for Horticulture and while she enjoyed teaching apprentices she knew that teaching pottery would become her new dream job.

Fast forward a couple of years, a house move, renovation and equipment acquisition. Fancy Nancy Ceramics was ready to launch pottery classes in Wallsend.

Starting in 2023, Nancy has been teaching the pottery wheel to people of all ages out of her home studio for 3 years now and is loving every second of it.

"I love seeing people have fun, make a mess, have a laugh and create something with their own hands. Whether or not they develop a love for pottery like I did, they all walk away with a fun memory and at least a new appreciation for handmade pottery after learning through basics."
