Glassblowing and mosaics for beginners
Glass blowing is a glass-forming technique that involved using a blow-tube to inflate molten glass, thus creating a variety of shapes by manipulating the glass bubble, or “parison.” Although this practice has only recently achieved mainstream attention, glass blowing classes and mosaic workshops aren’t teaching a new discipline. In fact, glass blowing dates back well into the 11th century BCE. The art form itself was further developed by the Roman empire and then spread throughout the known world. A culture that prided itself on its artistic excellence, they were also famous for their intricate and exquisite mosaics and can be credited for popularising it as an artistic medium.
Glass blowing hasn’t actually changed too much since then. The only major difference is that most studios now have their own small, purpose-built furnace, specifically designed for firing glasswork, making them easier for running small, practical glass blowing workshops and mosaic classes. These Brisbane workshops all run out of specific, glass blowing workshop studios, so you can be guaranteed that all tools and raw materials will be available and ready for you to learn and use.
What to expect at glassblowing and mosaic classes in Brisbane
Our glass blowing classes and mosaic classes are a truly mind-bending experience, and one of our most enjoyable Brisbane workshops. Learning how to blow glass is an emboldening experience, as you’re working with heavy industrial tools and making use of a furnace that burns at over 1000 degrees. While learning how to do mosaic can be a relaxing and creative experience.
Our mosaic classes are also one of the most enjoyable things to do in Brisbane, and our range of local practitioners will show you how to make a mosaic just like a true artist.
Glass blowing workshops and mosaic classes in Brisbane are a great way to expand your artistic skillset into a realm that very few artists get to experience. Perfect for birthday parties and unique anniversary gifts, glass blowing workshops are also an amazing experience gift for a loved one who embraces their crafty side and loves trying new things.
Glassblowing and mosaics are great for your wellbeing
Learning a new skill that requires problem-solving and high levels of motor function is fantastic for brain health, as it promotes the growth of white matter in the brain. This white matter opens up a new neural pathway that helps the brain defend itself from degenerative diseases such as dementia and Alzheimer’s. Taking glassblowing workshops also function as art therapy, and works as a type of “mindful movement meditation.” Due to the intensity of working with molten-hot glass, your focus has to be so intense that you can clear your mind of any outside troubles.
