Hand-Building Block Course

So you’ve had your first ever pottery lesson and you’ve fallen in love with it? Or you just want to take the plunge and enjoy a block set of workshop classes created especially for you? Either way, we can’t wait to help fall in love with the art of creating with clay!

Welcome to your very own Hand-Building Course - a 6-week Block Course designed to introduce you to the various techniques used in hand-building pottery and develop your skills across several weeks.

In this course, we will work on several new projects to create beautiful, functional pieces to use in the home. We will use new and different clay bodies, exposing you to beautiful new finishes on your surfaces. We also have a number of exciting molds to help you create fun shapes which are not achievable on the wheel - you'll love it!

Although we have several targets to learn and achieve during this course, while completing specific projects such as Flared Serving Bowls, Platters, Spoons, Wall Mounted Planters, and more - we can also include your own project ideas (for example, cups) in the course.

This 6-week Block Course includes 5 Hand-Building Lessons and 1 Glazing Lesson, where you will learn how different glazes interact with surfaces and with each other to create beautiful finishes, unique to you! The wonderful feeling you will experience each time you use your beautiful, handmade pieces will bring you joy for years to come.

If you’ve visited our studio before, you’ll know our rustic and relaxed environment immerses you in nature, surrounded by trees and overlooking the beautiful Moreton Bay. Perfect to continue your journey in all things mud and clay!

Block courses are by arrangement and set out over six separate sessions, so please feel free to message us at any time - we love creating experiences to remember and we’re very happy to work with you to sort out dates and times that suit.

Come and make the most of our beautiful location, after your class---enjoy lunch or drinks in one of our many local cafes or harbourside bars, visit local art galleries, go for a tasting at the local winery.

Courses are tailored to individual skill levels, so therefore suitable for people who have already fallen in love with clay and want to learn more, or for absolute beginners who want to jump in and learn how wonderful the world of clay is! :)
 

• All materials and tools
• Filtered chilled water, tea or coffee
• Your individual completed pieces, which will be bisque fired initially and then glaze fired following your last block workshop lesson

• Comfortable clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty (although you’ll be provided with an apron, you will get clay on your clothes)
• Closed-in shoes recommended
• Long hair is best tied back, fingernails should be trimmed short, and rings and bracelets are also best removed

After the first session, subsequent sessions can be arranged with the teacher, at a time that suits you.
