Handbuilding for Adults and Teenagers

Learn how to make clay in a calm, easy way. Make what you want when you want.

13+ years & Adults     2 hours - 3 hours Class size 1 to 6 guests

$70 (Afterpay & PayPal Pay in 4 available)

Step into a calm, creative space where you can unwind, get your hands into clay, and explore the art of handbuilding at your own pace. This class introduces foundational techniques such as pinching, coiling, and slab construction, giving participants the skills to create functional pieces like mugs, bowls, planters, or sculptural forms that reflect their personal style.
Guided by an instructor, students learn how to shape, refine, and assemble their forms, as well as experiment with surface decoration — from carving and texture to underglaze painting and slip work. Whether you’re a complete beginner or returning to clay after years away, the focus is on discovery, craftsmanship, and the quiet satisfaction of making something with your hands.
Expect a relaxed, social atmosphere where conversation flows easily, creativity is encouraged, and everyone leaves with a deeper appreciation for the tactile joy of clay.

Hi, I’m Kelli Warner — and welcome to Umu Clay, a little world shaped by love, creativity, and a nickname my two daughters gave me: Umu.
After years of teaching high school visual art (and cheering on everyone else’s creativity), I finally decided it was time to give my own passions some space to breathe.
Now I’m all in on my lifelong love of clay — exploring, experimenting, and creating pieces that bring joy, texture, and a bit of whimsy into everyday life.
