  • 5/5 from Tanja Dusseldorp, attended Jun 2026: What a fabulous thing to do in Newcastle, and such a great gift. I attended the class after being gifted it through ClassBento, and the booking process was super easy. The class itself was such fun, Yoshi is a wonderful teacher who was patient with us all and gave us great feedback and suggestions. He not only showed us how to design our terrarium but also how to maintain it and how to design any others we might like to do in the future. It was a fantastic experience I highly reccommend.
  • 5/5 from Beth Martizano, attended Jun 2026: Such a fun workshop! I came to this workshop alone and Yoshi made me feel welcomed right away. I really like how he educated the class about Japanese terrariums as well as after care. Yoshi has such a calming and encouraging energy to him as he takes you through each step of creating your terrarium. There was more than enough materials to choose and play around with and I walked away with a beautiful Japanese terrarium.
  • 5/5 from Lisa Bailey, attended Jun 2026: Yoshi was a lovely teacher and very kind and considerate. Well worth it.
  • 5/5 from Jeanette Chapman, attended Apr 2026: Yoshi was a fantastic teacher … very patient and informative. It was a wonderful activity for a rainy Saturday afternoon.
  • 5/5 from Diana Kostyrko, attended Apr 2026: This is a fabulous thing to do, affordable and well-priced, and would make a great gift (either the Terra-ya workshop, or a terrarium). I attended a two-hour workshop in Newcastle (no experience required); our class was small, so we all had the attention we needed. We were provided with specialised equipment, water, and aprons; all the plants, (inert) soil, rocks, and a little figurine to choose from, were supplied and laid out in readiness. We had basic instructions written out for us as a guide, but our instructor, Yoshi, walked us through the process, then he supervised as we went to work creating our very own terrarium, in a quiet environment: Yoshi was patient, knowledgeable and helpful. You can choose between two varieties of glass container for your mini-garden: smaller 'goldfish bowl', or a taller teardrop shape. I chose the taller one, which I suspect is a little harder to set up, but I was after more impact. Then we all went home with our little Japanese-inspired landscaped greenhouses to admire for months/years. It requires attention and application, but I would say that we all (we ranged in age) felt as if we'd created something special and personal. Plus it was fun; it was interesting to see what figurines the others chose to populate their landscape! (After great deliberation, I chose a rabbit but I could easily have chosen a zebra, or a hedgehog). If you're not a 'plant person' then these terrarium are ideal as they're self-watering and low maintenance. So, do it: especially if it takes you away from surfing the internet. (NB: after-workshop maintenance is available on the Terra-ya website).
