Discover the bold flavours of Korea in this hands-on Korean cooking class in Newcastle. Learn to make soft steamed bao buns from scratch and create a delicious selection of Korean street food favourites before sitting down to enjoy the feast together.
We’ll start with homemade bao buns, making the dough from scratch before learning how to shape and steam these wonderfully soft and fluffy buns. You’ll fill them with Korean BBQ pork, quick-pickled cucumber, and creamy gochujang mayonnaise.
Next, explore some of Korea’s most popular street food flavours as we prepare crispy Yachaejeon Korean vegetable pancakes with sesame-soy dipping sauce and Tteokbokki, the much-loved Korean rice cakes cooked in a spicy-sweet gochujang sauce.
We’ll also make oven-baked Korean sticky chicken, glazed with gochujang, ginger, sesame, and spring onion for a delicious balance of sweet, savoury, and spicy flavours.
Once the cooking is finished, we’ll move into our private dining room where you can relax and enjoy the Korean feast you’ve created together.

The passion for baking and cooking started in childhood for Janet Newton during the long Christmas holidays she spent baking with a Czechoslovakian family friend, Irene. During this time, the family was provided with an endless supply of traditional tarts, slices, biscuits, and cakes.
The wonderful love of sharing food with family and friends was born out of these one-on-one cooking lessons and is the inspiration behind the opening of The Yellow Door Kitchen.
Janet trained as a Pastry Chef at the famous Le Cordon Bleu cooking school and has many years of experience working in restaurants and patisseries. Her ability to combine flavors and her passion for baking is infectious and will ensure students are transported into a wonderful, creative world of cooking during her classes.
