Using a mix of charms from home and charms provided in class.

Taking inspiration from the viral Louise Carmen or the gorgeous Dejà Vu Journals, you can make your own leather journal, too.
Using upcycled leather offcuts rescued from local Tasmanian crafters or sustainably sourced Australian leather, you'll handcraft a journal cover complete with your choice of elastic cord, hardware colours, and three charms. Every piece is one-of-a-kind: because we sustainably source our leather, your colour is a surprise—part of the magic!
In two hours, you'll leave with a finished journal cover and the skills to make more at home in any size you like. All tools, templates, and step-by-step instructions are provided, plus links to online resources to keep creating long after the workshop ends.
Set inside Studio Selkie, a beautifully creative studio in Salamanca, you'll be inspired at every turn. Come unleash your inner maker!
Feel free to contact me if you would like a date added; the more the merrier. As long as we have enough participants and the venue is available, I want to serve the community and meet your needs.
Little tip: If you have charms or pendants you love, bring them! Also, a little warning...leatherwork can get a bit noisy, but we offer earplugs :)

  • 5/5 from Tanya Brooks-Cooper, attended Sep 2026: You need to get along to this class! Not only do you get to hammer things loudly, you get to take home a special item that will last for ever - for you or as a gift. All those notebooks you haven’t used will have a home and choosing the bling is the best stress you can have! Gaby is so fun, kind and skilled - you will feel welcome and supported. Take a friend and then do a local lunch - and swiftly head off to your fav stationary stop to fill up your new prize!
  • 5/5 from Kylie Dunn, attended Sep 2026: Loved the workshop. Very accessible and achievable. Gaby’s instruction was excellent. Great way to spend a few hours and the end product is lovely.
  • 5/5 from Michele Warner, attended Sep 2026: This was a lovely, practical and very satisfying class. Gaby was organised, explained things clearly, and made everyone feel welcome and involved. The customisation and range of options for colours, fixings and decorations was impressive and made for a very personalised outcome for everyone. I bought this for myself as a birthday present...24 hours since I made mine, and I can't help but hold it and hug it and feel so happy looking at it. Feels really precious and wonderful. Amazing gift for the analog legends in your life (make it for them or gift the course - better yet, do it together!), or treat yourself and make something beautiful just for you. Highly recommend.
  • 5/5 from Rebecca Rowe, attended Jul 2026: Gaby led a delightful workshop with the perfect balance of guidance and room to be creative. I'm so happy with the journal cover I made, and I'll be looking out for more opportunities to build my collection!

Moved from Sydney to Hobart to live a slower life and have loved trying analog activities to stay off my phone!
I have an "I can figure this out" attitude, and when I see something that is way out of my budget or just beautiful but not to my taste, you will find me trying to recreate it.
I'm pretty easy going, ok with making mistakes and appreciate the "wabi sabi" in everything I see or do. I can't wait to share that spirit with you in this class!
