My daughter and I attended a Watercolour Floral Painting Workshop with Cecilia Xiao today, and it was such a lovely experience from start to finish. Cecilia is a wonderful teacher - patient, calm, encouraging and incredibly talented. She explained each step clearly and made the workshop feel relaxed and welcoming, regardless of our very basic skill level. We both felt supported and inspired throughout the session. The class was thoughtfully structured, with just the right balance of guidance and creative freedom. It was so special to share this creative time together, and we were amazed at what we were able to create by the end of the workshop. The studio environment was very relaxing and comfortable, which made it easy to focus and enjoy the process. During the class, I learned foundational watercolour techniques and how to paint three different types of flowers, then combine them beautifully into a vase composition. I am a member tutor of Watercolour Society of QLD. Over many years, I have refined my skills and cultivated my distinctive style. I have won local and national art awards in Australia. Since 2019, I have been honoured to be chosen by the Australian Watercolour Muster for four years consecutively as one of thirty artists whose works get showcased in Italy for the world to see.
Achievements:
One of three finalist of Australia in Watercolour Golden Brush Competition, France 2024 and 2025;
One of 30 winners to showcase Australian watercolor artists to the world in Italy in 2019, 2020, 2022 and 2023;
People’s Choice Prize of WSQ Annual Exhibition in 2019, 2021 and 2023;
Finalist in IMWM competition 2020, Flora category;
Highly Commended prize in Twinrivers Lion Art Show 2020;
Hanger’s Prize of WSQ Annual Exhibition 2019.
My watercolour paintings celebrate the timeless beauty of flowers by capturing their delicate essence with gentle brushstrokes and vivid hues. Through translucent layers and fluidity, I replicate the softness of petals, intricate details, and subtle gradations of colour that define each bloom.
The unpredictability of watercolours make them fascinating to work with. I love to watch colours blend into each other; the wonderful "accidents" that happen with the flow of colours cannot be achieved by any other medium that I know of. Painting is my form of freedom and expression -- at this point, I feel almost addicted to it. I want to share with you my passion and techniques.
