Nature's Pattern Language Kids Workshop

Leporello & Weaving

9 to 15 years     2.5 hours Class size 1 to 12 guests

$65 (Afterpay & PayPal Pay in 4 available)

In this playful and tactile workshop, children discover the beauty of natural textures by creating their very own accordion book (leporello) filled with botanical leaf prints, mixed-media pattern designs, and an integrated weaving loom.
They will use printing ink to stamp organic textures, then explore watercolour, oil pastels, and charcoal to draw and paint complementary patterns onto the accordion pages. To finish, they will transform those visual patterns into a unique tactile weaving on the final panel!
Duration: 2.5 hours of creation, exploration, and craft
Who is it for? Perfect for coming with a group or making new friends!
Takeaway: A magnificent handmade eco-art leporello book complete with natural prints, hand-drawn patterns, and a custom woven panel to take home.
Please bring an art apron for the kids, as things might get a little messy with inks, paints, and charcoal!
Good to Know (Location & Weather): Held outdoors in Maleny, nature serves as our inspiring studio! While designed to be an outdoor experience, we have excellent sheltered options nearby to ensure the creative fun goes on rain or shine.
Who is it for? This workshop is ideally tailored for children aged 9 to 12 years old. However, younger children are very welcome to join if accompanied by an adult to help them with the printing and weaving activities, and older kids/teens who love hands-on art are welcome too! Perfect for coming with a group or making new friends!
Skills your group will learn:
Bookmaking Fundamentals: Building a folded accordion structure (leporello) and learning how to integrate a functional loom panel within a book format.
Botanical Monotype Printing: Experimenting with natural items (leaves, twigs, seed pods) and printing ink to stamp and press organic textures directly onto paper.
Surface & Pattern Design: Exploring watercolour, oil pastels, and charcoal to observe, draw, and paint repetitive motifs inspired by elements found in nature.
Hand-Weaving Techniques: Understanding the basics of loom setup (warp & weft) and translating visual patterns into physical textiles using yarn, grasses, and natural fibres.
Fine Motor Skills: A fantastic workout for fine motor development through delicate stamping, precision folding, charcoal sketching, threading, and weaving.
