What you'll do
Trending at present is a the craft of ‘needle felting’. Learn how to make realistic animals with Di Conroy, a fibre artist, who studied this amazing skill while living in Tokyo for 16 years. This class is for beginners, and you'll be given step-by-step instructions and guidance on how to make one of our beautiful Australian birds. During the workshop, Di will give advice on how to create more realistic and lifelike creatures.What you'll learn:
- Knowledge of the right wools to use for different projects
- Instruction on the right gauge of needle to use and when
- How to make a wire armature from paper-covered wire for little feet
- Basic body shaping, proportions and how to get a realistic shape
- How to blend wools
- Tools: Rice bags, high-quality needles, wooden needle holders, pliers and scissors
- Materials: Australian core wool, and NZ Corriedale wools

Dianne studied needle felting in Japan while living there for 16 yrs with some of Japanese finest needle felting teachers. Felting became a passion after years of practice. Dianne moved back to Brisbane and opened Wild Woolly Heads taking commissions for miniature replicas of peoples’ dogs, and large interior design trophy heads. Inspiration comes from her dog, garden and travels.
