Welcome & Settle In

You'll be welcomed to the studio by Mrs Royle. Then you'll find a spot at the table with an easel and art kit, pop on an apron and get comfy. We’ll do quick introductions, get familiar with our space, chat about today’s artwork and make sure everyone feels relaxed and ready to create.

Studio Etiquette, Brush Care and Paint Basics

Studio Etiquette, Brush Care and Paint Basics

A studio is a special, purpose-built space where your creativity comes to life. We treat our space, materials and each other with kindness and respect so everyone can have a safe, positive and joyful experience. Kids will learn how to look after your brushes, use the acrylic paints properly and move around the studio safely.

Ready, Set, PAINT!

Ready, Set, PAINT

Then it’s time to dive in! We’ll start the painting together, step by step, with Mrs Royle guiding children from start to finish. They’ll be free to make their own creative choices, experiment with colour and pick up plenty of handy tips and tricks along the way.

Pack up, Wash Up & Pick Up

Pack Up, Wash Up & Pick Up

As we finish our creative time together, we'll pack away our brushes, paint palettes and cloths to leave our space tidy. We'll hang our aprons then it will be time to collect your masterpiece and anything else you’ve brought along. A quick high-five goodbye and you’re all set to be picked up by your parent/guardian, to head home feeling proud of what you’ve created today!
Mrs Royle will help everyone leave safely and calmly, making sure each young artist heads home with their masterpiece -- and a big smile!

School’s out for summer holidays and CREATIVE FUN is in!
Hey parents! Looking for something special for your creative kiddos to do these school holidays?
Your budding young artists are invited to join us at Dabble Art for a colour-packed guided painting session or an open-ended mixed media adventure. Check our dates and listings for more information. Whether your little artist loves step-by-step guidance or freestyle creativity, we’ve got sessions to suit their flow. Give them the gift of screen-free, brain-loving creative play that sparks curiosity, confidence and joy.
At Dabble Art, we believe kids deserve real art experiences. That’s why every session is taught by a practising artist and highly experienced, qualified children’s art teacher. Your sessions will be hosted by Mrs Royle, who guides students step-by-step as they create their very own painted masterpiece.

FAQ

I have a super keen artist younger than 7 years old — can they join the session?
Our sessions are designed for ages 8+ to support the best learning outcomes and ensure students can work independently in the studio environment. We will consider artists as young as 6 on a case-by-case basis. Please contact Renée via email as soon as possible (before you book) to discuss your young artist.
Can parents stay during the session?
These classes are run as “drop and go” sessions. A quiet, settled studio helps kids focus, learn and express themselves freely. You’re welcome to drop off, enjoy a break and some well-earned 'you time', and return at pick-up time.
What should my young artist wear?
Comfortable clothes and closed in shoes that are OK to get a little painty! We provide aprons, but creativity can be enthusiastic. Please also tie long hair back.
See more FAQs
What if my child has additional needs, allergies or medical considerations?
Please email Renée before booking your session with any relevant details so we can ensure this session is right for your artist.
What type of art will they be making?
Guided painting sessions follow a clear step-by-step sequence, however artists will be able (and encouraged!) to make their own artistic decisions along the way. This means their finished piece won't necessarily look exactly like the example used in the listing -- it will look like their own style, influenced by their interests, curiosity and enthusiasm. Mixed media sessions are more open-ended, offering artists lots of creative freedom to create a truly unique work of art. Both options teach real art skills while giving kids plenty of room to express themselves.
Are your materials safe for children?
Yes. We use high-quality, non-toxic, student-safe paints and materials specifically chosen for young artists. It is an expectation in our studio that artists will follow instructions regarding safe use of all materials.
Where is the bathroom located?
The bathroom is located within our studio. Kids are guided on how to safely move around the studio when they need a break and can access the toilet whenever they need. There is a wash basin and soap provided.
What happens if I’m running late for pick-up?
Please let us know as soon as possible via text or call. The studio cannot provide extended childcare, but we do understand 'life happens' and your child will be safe in our care until you arrive.
Are mobile phones allowed?
We encourage a screen-free, un-interrupted experience. Phones should stay on silent in bags unless needed for important communication. Please let Renée know if your child will require access to their phone during the session.

Mālō ’e tau lava & G’day! Renée here — your friendly, curly-haired Aussie-Tongan artist and teacher from Brisbane, and the heart behind Dabble Art. My Bulimba-based art studio, Studio Vā, is home to a variety of maker and visual art experiences for all ages. Dabble Art listings shine a light on my offerings for kids.
Through Dabble Art, I help budding young artists aged 7–17 explore the magic of visual arts and themselves, guiding them along their own pathway of exploration and discovery towards creative confidence and joyful self-expression.
I was once a primary school teacher (for nearly 20 years!) — can you guess which subject was my favourite to teach? That’s right… ART! Over time, I also realised it was the key to unlocking confidence, connection and joy in my students.
Teaching showed me that every child has their own creative rhythm — they just need the freedom, encouragement and a purposeful space to find it.
Dabble Art, originally founded in 2012, was born from the belief that art is more than making something polished or “wall-worthy.” It’s about discovering who you are, celebrating your unique way of seeing the world, and developing the confidence to trust your own creative voice. I’ve lovingly created a space where children can explore their creative curiosity and surprise themselves with what they can do.
If you have a budding young artist ready to join me for a workshop or class, expect warmth, music, a calm space, laughter and permission to let go and get into the creative flow.
See you soon!
