4.5 hours Class size 8 to 16 guests       $275

Celebrate Newcastle Food Month with an immersive culinary experience that highlights the flavour, freshness and tradition of our local coastline. Taste of Newcastle – A Seafood Masterclass is a hands-on cooking workshop designed for seafood enthusiasts looking to elevate their cooking skills while enjoying a premium dining experience.
The evening begins with a one-hour guided wine tasting hosted by Stay n Sip, showcasing a curated selection of wines that pair beautifully with local seafood. You’ll explore varietals, flavour notes and perfect food matches—setting the scene for the cooking experience to follow.
Guided by Yellow Door Kitchen’s expert chef, you’ll move into the kitchen for an interactive class that includes fish butchery techniques, where you’ll learn how to prepare and work confidently with whole fish.
Together, you’ll create a three-course menu featuring:
  • Smoked Salmon & Fennel Verrines – fresh, elegant, and beautifully layered
  • Prawn-Stuffed Individual Flatheads with Seafood Velouté Sauce & Beurre Noisette Baby Potatoes – expertly prepared and served with seasonal vegetables
  • Lemon Soufflé with Zesty Citrus Curd & Meringue – light, bright, and citrus-filled
Once the cooking is complete, take your seat in our beautiful dining room and enjoy the full three-course meal you’ve created, served with a glass of wine to complement the main course.

The passion for baking and cooking started in childhood for Janet Newton during the long Christmas holidays she spent baking with a Czechoslovakian family friend, Irene. During this time, the family was provided with an endless supply of traditional tarts, slices, biscuits, and cakes.
The wonderful love of sharing food with family and friends was born out of these one-on-one cooking lessons and is the inspiration behind the opening of The Yellow Door Kitchen.
Janet trained as a Pastry Chef at the famous Le Cordon Bleu cooking school and has many years of experience working in restaurants and patisseries. Her ability to combine flavors and her passion for baking is infectious and will ensure students are transported into a wonderful, creative world of cooking during her classes.
